Does your sharpener de-magnitize your blades thoroughly after sharpening them? Ask them... yes its important, otherwise I wouldn't waste my time doing it...
It lengthens the time required between sharpenings. if its not done your blades become magnetized after running them on the plate to sharpen and then they pick up bits of fine steel dust and particles which cause your blades to dull much more quickly. And then they require more sharpening more regularly (costing you more money) and that in turn reduces the length of the life if your blade (even more costly to you)...
