Look, I may be a taxidermist, but I have the most relentless compassion on any living creature that comes my way. And sometimes, I'll have to admit, when I've bonded with rescued animals I always refuse the option of taxidermizing them if they end up not making it. It's a different kind of feeling when working with individuals you once knew, saw alive, breathing, or gazing up at you.
Even as I work with birds I never saw alive, I get emotional just seeing the cause of their demise, and makes me want to end the process there all at once. I wouldn't wish death upon anyone or anything. I do taxidermy because I love seeing them look alive again, and preserving their beauty through the most honorable ways possible.
And for those animals that end up making it, sometimes make it back to me, to thank me in some way. Here's a little story that glorifies that...
There has been an owl flying around our neighborhood with chicks for years now, and four days ago I decided to befriend this cutie at last.
Mind you, we rescued and released an owl named Hiccup a few years back in the same spot, and I'm starting to think it could be her, because no other owl wants to come near me, except for her.
Our bond has grown over the past four days of continued feeding sessions and gaining the trust of one another. The outcome has been tremendous. I am so blessed to have made a lasting impact on her life, just as she did in mine π₯Ήπ¦β€οΈ
