Hunter is off to Oscar's Arc to be homed 🙌
This boy was on a short chain the first year of his life, for 3 days he was bouncing off the walls and nipping us and every dog he ran past. The teddy's helped, as I found him having a teddy or toy in his mouth helped him control his impulses. In just one week Hunter became the perfect and friendliest boy. So what was going on with Hunter , why was he behaving this way? Let me explain...

Fear aggression in dogs is a complex behavior that involves various brain and physiological processes.
Firstly ,Amygdala Activation,The amygdala is a part of the brain responsible for processing emotions, including fear. When a dog perceives a threat or a fearful stimulus, the amygdala becomes highly active, triggering a fear response.

Then the release of stress hormones, dog's brain releases stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol in response to the fear. These hormones prepare the dog for a "fight or flight" response creating heightened alertness.Fear can make the dog more alert, with heightened senses, ready to react to potential threats. Increasing aggression when fearful dog feels trapped or cornered, they exhibit aggressive behaviors as a defense mechanism.
Dogs then have decreased cognitive function in states of intense fear, a dog's cognitive functions is impaired and become less responsive to commands and less able to think rationally.

Understanding the neurobiology of fear aggression is essential for Rescues.
I worked on numerous issues with Hunter which with behavioral modification, desensitization, and counterconditioning techniques to help Hunter overcome the fear and reduce aggressive responses.

This work is full day job and we don't only work on 1 dog we work on many at a time. This takes us away from work that pays our own bills.

We really ask that all our please make a small monthly contribution to our cause.
If it wasnt for our efforts and work , most of these dogs would have been euthanised if we didn't intervene.
Hunter is grateful his life was spared and he was given a second chance at a normal stable life.

Go well Hunter , you lucky lucky boy . I know they will find you the most amazing loving home 💕

Please support 🙏

Misconceptions about dominance in dogs have been common, but it's essential to understand that our understanding of dog behavior has evolved. Dominance theory, popularized by outdated ideas, can be misleading. Dogs may show aggression towards other dogs for various reasons:

Fear or Anxiety: Aggression can result from fear or anxiety, not dominance. A dog may react aggressively to another dog out of insecurity or a desire to protect themselves.

Resource Guarding: Some dogs may become aggressive when guarding resources like food, toys, or territory. This is not necessarily a display of dominance but rather a natural behavior.

Social Hierarchy: While dogs do have social structures, it's more complex than a linear dominance hierarchy. Aggression can occur when social interactions are misinterpreted or disrupted.

Lack of Socialization: Inadequate socialization during a dog's early development can lead to fear or aggression towards other dogs due to a lack of positive experiences.

Medical Issues: Pain or discomfort from health issues can cause aggression. It's crucial to rule out medical causes before assuming behavioral problems.

Poor Training or Handling: Aggression can be inadvertently reinforced through training or handling methods. Punishment-based training can create fear-based aggression.

Individual Differences: Each dog has a unique temperament. What may trigger aggression in one dog may not affect another in the same way.

Understanding and addressing the underlying causes of aggression, such as fear or anxiety, is more productive than trying to establish dominance. Positive reinforcement training, socialization, and professional guidance can help address and prevent aggressive behavior in dogs.

Please do not try dominate your dogs , dogs are very much aware you are not a dog.
All you are doing is breaking a trust and a bond between your dog and yourself.

Please contact us should you require a behavioural assessment and assistance.
