ALLIED STEELRODE -ONAMISSION CHARITY MILE RUNNERS AND CHARITIES

Sean Tarry Racing will be doubly represented in Saturday’s R1 000 000 G2 Allied Steelrode -Onamission Charity Mile.
One of the country’s top one mile features, the Tarry yard will be saddling the G1 winners Cosmic Speed and Grand Empire in the 2026 Charity Mile.

Cosmic Speed, who is drawn in barrier two, will be ridden by Craig Zackey, while Keagan De Melo will partner the poorly drawn Grand Empire.

COSMIC SPEED
Owner: Mukund Gujadhur, Rikesh Sewgoolam and the Wernars Family
Breeder: Maine Chance Farms
Pedigree: Querari -Cosmic Dream

The five-year-old caught the eye when running on strongly for fifth, beaten less than three lengths by champion Gladatorian, in the G2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge last time out. With no Gladatorian in this race, Cosmic Speed, the winner of the 2025 G1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes could well give a good account of himself, despite having to concede weight all round.

GRAND EMPIRE
Owner:Mukund Gujadhur, Rikesh Sewgoolam and the Wernars Family
Breeder: Al Adiyaat
Pedigree: Vercingetorix -Palace Of Dreams

This lightly raced four-year-old showed his class last season when he won the G1 HKJC World Pool SA Classic and ran second in the G2 TAB Gauteng Guineas. Has been beaten in his two most recent starts and does have a shocking draw to contend with in the Charity Mile.

Cosmic Speed will be running for the Ubunye Foundation, while stablemate Grand Empire will be carrying the hopes of the TAG Foundation.

TAB GRAHAM BECK STAKES RUNNERS

The Tarry yard could be triply represented in Saturday’s G3 TAB Graham Beck Stakes. The stable is set to saddle Prayersandpromises and Wild And Free, with the Tarry yard’s Lucky Awesome a reserve runner for the Graham Beck Stakes.

PRAYERSANDPROMISESES: g Gimmethegreenlight -Awayinthewoods
Owner: ASSM Racing Syndicate
Breeder: Blue Sky Thoroughbreds

Showed smart form at two, and ended his juvenile campaign when beaten just over five lengths in the G1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes. He enjoys the 1400m trip and caught the eye when finishing fifth, from a wide draw, in the G2 Omoda Golden Horseshoe.
Unfortunately he has a wide draw of 13 to overcome here.

WILD AND FREE: g The United States -Trip To India
Owner: L’Ormarins & Friends
Breeder: Drakenstein Stud

This lightly raced gelding will be making just his third start on Saturday and he looks to have plenty of scope. After winning impressively on debut (the form of which has subsequently been well franked), Wild And Free caught the eye when running a good second to the highly rated Coast Of The Sun over 1400m. He could be anything, but has a shocking draw to overcome in what is his toughest test to date.

LUCKY AWESOME: g One World -Secret Star
Owner: Sai Wai Liu
Breeder: Ian Van Schalkwyk

Looks to have a tough task here as he is the lowest rated runner and as a reserve runner is not guaranteed a spot. Comes into the race off a convincing maiden win and is well drawn in contrast to his stablemates.

TAB STARLING STAKES RUNNERS

The Tarry yard has a very strong lineup in this year’s G3 TAB Starling Stakes, with the stable set to be represented by five competitive runners in the R250 000 contest for three-year-old fillies.

GET UP: What A Winter - Gabor
Owner: Drakenstein Stud
Breeder: Drakenstein Stud

One of the best two-year-old fillies of last season, Get Up won both the G2 Allan Robertson Championship and G3 TAB Pretty Polly Stakes last season. Not disgraced when beaten two lengths by Flower Island last time out and she now meets Flower Island 1kgs better off. She gets the services of champion jockey Craig Zackey on Saturday.

ALICE B TOKLAS: Master Of My Fate - Alice Springs
Owner: Dayalan Chinsammy, Mark Currie, Gerald Frank & Vendel Civils (Pty) Ltd
Breeder: Varsfontein Stud

She showed good promise last season when winning the Listed Amusnet Devon Air Stakes impressively before finishing second in the G2 Amusnet Golden Slipper. Alice B Toklas does make her three-year-old debut on Saturday but does get weight from all of Get Up, Flower Island and Good Day Sunshine and is nicely drawn.

SECRETARY BIRD: Rafeef -Secretariat’s Girl
Owner: ASSM Racing Syndicate
Breeder: Klawervlei Stud

Showed smart form at two when winning the Listed Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes (beating stablemate Griselda by two and a quarter lengths on that occasion) and finishing third, against male rivals, in the G2 Omoda Golden Horseshoe (over 1400m). She should come on with her last run, but has a wide draw to overcome in the Starling Stakes.

GRISELDA: Erik The Red -Gallica Rose
Owner: Antony & Angela Beck and Mr Hackner
Breeder: Maine Chance Farms

Uber consistent filly, who has just once finished out of the first two. The runner up in both the Listed Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes and G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Nursery last season, she bested her Fillies Nursery conqueror last time out when making a winning three-year-old debut. She is, however, slightly worse off with Good Day Sunshine here.

WITHIN REACH: Malmoos - Jetorio
Owner: Wernars Family and Mukund Gujadhur
Breeder: Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm

The classically bred Within Reach (her granddam won the Met) has done nothing wrong in a brief career. After beating Moana when making a winning debut, she was then beaten into second place by the useful Moana while conceding 3kgs to the winner. Within Reach went on to win her only subsequent start. Poorly drawn here, at the ratings she does need to improve to beat some highly rated rivals, but appears to have plenty of scope.

A double for Sean Tarry Racing at TAB Vaal on Thursday! Celeritas and Thundering Hooves both broke their maidens at just their second starts, winning over 1000m and 1700m respectively under Keagan de Melo and Craig Zackey. Congratulations to all the winning connections!

Classy three-year-old Griselda delivered a smart win at Turffontein on Saturday.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Griselda races for Mr A R and Mrs A B L Beck and Mr M O Hackner. Congratulations to her owners and breeder.

The stable came close to adding another win, with Xenophon beaten by just a neck after finishing second in Race 8. Secret Getway also ran a strong race to finish runner-up in Race 3, while Alittlebitolove took second place in Race 2.
