Letā€™s talk about GDV ā€” also known as Bloat.
If you donā€™t know what GDV is, please learn.
Itā€™s when the stomach twists, cutting off blood flow and rapidly filling with gas. Itā€™s excruciating, and without immediate treatment, it is almost always fatal.
āš ļø Watch for signs: pacing, restlessness, retching without vomiting, distended belly, gurgling, odd behavior.
āš ļø Know your emergency vet locations, have them in your phone, and CALL on your way.
As for causes? Ask 10 vets, get 10 answers. Some say genetics, stress, exercise, anesthesia, who knows. The only prevention is to tack the stomach during another surgery ā€” something I now strongly recommend.

Please educate yourself about GDV. It could save your dogā€™s life.

OUR STORY

Von Hundenzaay German Shepherds is a small family owned kennel and was born out of our passion for the breed. Our mission is to produce high quality German Shepherds and therefore each litter will be thoroughly planned to ensure that we produce only dogs of a superior quality.Our aim as breeders is not to just put more dogs into the system but to produce quality dogs with stable temperaments who will add value to their new families as well as excel in the show ring.

All our dogs are part of our family and are loved and cared for as family members should be. We are proud members of the German Shepherd Federation and comply to the strict rules for breeding as set out by them.
