๐ŸŒธ Hap-BEE Spring, South Africa! ๐Ÿ

The first day of September is here... And with it comes that unmistakable joy in the air. The mornings are warmer, gardens and parks are bursting back to life, and all around us, people and nature are shaking off winterโ€™s rest.

Itโ€™s the season to dance in the sun, braai with friends, swim in rivers and lakes, and breathe in the freshness of new beginnings. Everywhere, new life is emerging - little ones, blossoms, and busy bees ready for a season of abundance.

For the bees, this is the moment theyโ€™ve been waiting for: the first flowers, pollen to carry home, and queens beginning to lay their summer workers. Itโ€™s a beautiful reminder to us all - rebirth, energy, and connection are flowing again.

๐Ÿ A simple note from the bees: Donโ€™t cut your grass just yet. Those first dandelions, clovers, and wild blooms are a vital early food source that helps colonies recover after winter.

From our hives to your homes, we wish you a season filled with sunshine, laughter, and growth. ๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒฟ

Happy Spring Day from Urban Bees & Langโ€™s!
Hereโ€™s to a magical summer ahead.

๐Ÿ Whatโ€™s All That on the Window? .... Itโ€™s Bee Poo (Yes - Really!)

When bees get trapped indoors, often because someone blocks their exit, they panic and try to escape toward the light. In the chaos, they end up pooping on windows and walls. Those yellow-brown splatters? Thatโ€™s bee faeces. Itโ€™s totally natural, but a sure sign they were stressed and desperate to get out.๐Ÿ˜ข

And when bees are stressed, they also become much more defensive. I was stung in the face within 5 minutes of opening the ceiling - they were understandably on high alert. But the moment they sensed I was there to help, they calmed down and became surprisingly well 'bee-haved'. ๐Ÿ

So hereโ€™s the takeaway:
๐Ÿšซ Donโ€™t block their entrance
๐Ÿšซ Donโ€™t spray them with Doom
โœ… Just call us โ€” weโ€™ll safely remove and relocate the colony with minimal harm.

Letโ€™s give the bees a better home, not a dead end.

๐Ÿ Shed Surprise!
I recently removed a thriving bee colony tucked beneath a clientโ€™s garden shed, a warm, dry, and undisturbed space bees love to call home. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

But hereโ€™s the catch: because sheds are so shallow, bees canโ€™t build downward like they normally would. Instead, the colony spreads horizontally, creating a sprawling network of comb. The longer theyโ€™re left, the bigger (and more complicated) the job becomes.

๐Ÿ‘‰ If youโ€™re seeing bee activity under your shed or deck, donโ€™t leave it too long! Safe, ethical removals protect both the bees and your property.

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ Celebrating World Bee Day on May 20th! ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒ

World Bee Day was established by the United Nations in 2017 to raise awareness about the vital role bees and other pollinators play in our ecosystems and food security. The date, May 20th, was chosen to honour Anton Janลกa, a pioneer of modern beekeeping, born on this day in 1734.

Bees are essential for pollinating over 75% of the worldโ€™s flowering plants, contributing significantly to our food supply. However, bee populations are declining due to habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change.

Hereโ€™s how you can make a difference:

Plant Bee-Friendly Gardens: Choose native flowers and plants that provide nectar and pollen. ๐ŸŒผ

Support Local Beekeepers: Purchase honey and other bee products from local sources to help sustain their livelihoods. ๐Ÿฏ

Don't use Pesticides: Opt for natural pest control methods to protect our pollinators. ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ

Create Bee Habitats: Leave patches of wildflowers and undisturbed areas in your garden for bees to thrive. ๐ŸŒฟ

Educate Others: Share information about the importance of bees and how to protect them within your community. ๐Ÿ“š

Be a Responsible Consumer: Choose organic and sustainably sourced products to help reduce the impact of harmful chemicals on bee populations. ๐ŸŒฑ

Together, we can create a buzz for change and ensure a thriving environment for bees and future generations! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ๐ŸŒธ Hap-Bee Easter! ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒธ
As we celebrate this joyful season of renewal and hope, let's remember our tiny little pollinators who work tirelessly to bring life to our beautiful world. This Easter, consider planting vibrant flowers to create a haven for our bee buddies, and opt for gifting live flowers instead of cut ones. Together, we can nurture our buzzing friends and ensure they continue to thrive.

Spread love, plant hope, and let's make our world a more bee-utiful place! ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿ’›
