As cold weather approaches, here are some key tips for keeping pets safe and comfortable:

Limit Outdoor Time: Don’t leave pets outside for extended periods. Short, supervised walks are best, especially for small or short-haired breeds.

Dress Appropriately: Consider pet sweaters or coats for dogs that don’t tolerate the cold well. Booties can also protect paws from ice, salt, and frostbite.

Protect Their Paws: Wipe your pet’s paws after walks to remove salt and chemicals and check for cracks or irritation.

Provide a Warm Shelter: Keep pet beds off cold floors and away from drafts. Use blankets or heated pet beds (safely) for extra warmth.
Adjust Food and Water: Pets may need more calories in the cold, especially if they spend time outdoors. Make sure water bowls aren’t frozen.

Don’t Leave Pets in Cold Cars: Just like hot cars, cold vehicles can be dangerous. Temperatures drop quickly and can be life-threatening.

Check Under the Hood: Cats sometimes hide in car engines for warmth. Tap the hood or honk before starting your car.
