EMERGENCY SHARING FOR OUDTSHOORN DOGS IN NEED!
This is a VERY URGENT APPEAL for ODIN (Oudtshoorn Dogs in Need). They do exceptional animal welfare work under the most difficult circumstances. Unfortunately, due to a zoning issue, their kennels are due to be torn down, including their cattery. They MUST FIND FOSTER OR FOREVER HOMES FOR THEIR ANIMALS as quickly as possible. If you are in the area, and can assist, please REACH OUT TO THEM. If you are further away, please network and share widely - MAXIMUM AWARENESS WILL HELP ODIN!

How your life can change in a day ….

OUPIE 🤎 has been a resident of Botriver for many years . He often pops in at our Botriver charity shop for a drink of water and a little snack. We have a blanket behind the desk where he sometimes come to rest before toddling back home.

Today his owner called to ask us to fetch him to put to sleep. When we got to the house he was lying on his cushion on the stoep and he stood up to greet us with a tail wag.

When we asked why she thought he had to be euthanised her answer was that he’s old and annoying and they don’t want him on the stoep anymore!!

You can only imagine the inner strength it takes to keep calm to answers like that.

If you are dealing with that type of mentality sometimes it is better just to remove the dog & not even try to reason with them as God only knows what they will do to get rid of it.

When she came out with her R200 contribution towards his euthanasia and knee’d him away we told her to keep it and rather buy a pot plant to make her stoep look pretty and loaded him up.

So now we have an elderly brown dog who’s life is depending on some kind person to offer him a home for his last few years.

Our allocated vet cages are full and the only place we have is the spare cage at the back of the clinic at the moment. He is so unsure of this new environment and it’s breaking our hearts to see his confusion.

Our vet said he has a strong heart, unblocked his a**l glands and dipped him to kill off the fleas and other than that he’s a healthy dog.

The adoption fee of R1100 will include his sterilisation, vaccination, microchip, deworming and flea treatment to date of adoption.
