🎃 Trick or Treat! 👻 But NOT for Your Rabbit! 🐰

This Halloween, let's talk about a real scare for your bunny: muesli diets! 😱 Those colorful, "treat-like" mixes might look festive, but they're a dangerous trick on your rabbit's health.

The Spooky Truth About Muesli:

💀 Dental Demons: Muesli doesn't wear down teeth, leading to painful dental spikes and abscesses. A true horror show for their mouth!

⚰️ Gut Graveyard: Low fiber can cause gut stasis – a silent killer that can quickly lead to their demise.

👻 Obesity Ogre: High sugar and starch make bunnies gain weight, inviting a host of other ghoulish health problems.

🕷️Flystrike Fright: Sticky, uneaten droppings can attract flies, leading to the terrifying ordeal of flystrike.

Don't let your bunny fall for the muesli monster!

Their ideal "treat" is an endless supply of fresh hay, a small portion of high-quality plain brown pellets, and fresh leafy greens. Keep their gut happy and their teeth healthy!

📣 URGENT BUNNY ALERT! 🐰 Diwali Safety Starts NOW! 🕯️

Diwali is a beautiful festival of lights, but the loud fireworks and bright flashes can be absolutely terrifying and dangerous for our super-sensitive rabbit friends. Rabbits are prey animals, and sudden, loud noises can cause extreme stress, leading to potential health issues like gut stasis.

Here’s how to be your bunny's safe haven this festive season:

Bring them Indoors: If your bunny lives outside, bring their hutch/cage into a quiet room, garage, or shed to muffle the sound and light.

Soundproof: Close all windows and curtains. Play some calm music or turn on the TV/radio to mask the sudden bangs.

Create a Bolt-hole: Provide extra hideaways! A cardboard box stuffed with hay with two exit holes is perfect for burrowing and feeling secure.

Stay Calm: Your calm presence can be incredibly reassuring.

Calm is Key: That Bunny Farm to the Rescue!
Help soothe their stress naturally with our range of calming, enriching products:

✨ That Bunny Farm Willow & Chamomile Topper: Sprinkle this over their hay! Willow is known for mild pain-relieving properties, and Chamomile is a gentle, natural calmer.

🍂 That Bunny Farm Autumn Topper: Entice picky eaters! Dandelion and Chamomile (among others) encourage hay intake, which is vital for a healthy gut, especially when stressed.

🌿 That Bunny Farm Tranquility Hay: A comforting, fragrant hay blend to encourage constant eating and grazing, essential for gut health during anxious times.

💖 That Bunny Farm Chamomile Bites: These healthy, calming little treats are perfect for distraction and reward during quiet times.

Make this Diwali safe and snug for your bun! Shop our anxiety-busting range today and light up their life with comfort, not fear.

Tips to Keep Your Rabbit Cool Tomorrow:

Move them indoors: If possible, bring your rabbits inside to a cool, well-ventilated room with air conditioning or a fan. Never point a fan directly at them.

Provide Shade: For rabbits who must stay outdoors, ensure their hutch or enclosure is in a full-shade area for the entire day. The sun moves, so check their location regularly. Use a tarp or umbrella for extra protection.

Cooling Stations: Place ceramic or slate tiles in their living space. These surfaces stay cool and provide a comfortable spot for your rabbit to lie on. You can even put the tiles in the fridge or freezer beforehand for a boost.

Frozen Water Bottles: Freeze a plastic bottle of water and wrap it in a towel. Place it in the enclosure so they can lean against it to cool down.

Ample Water Supply: Provide multiple sources of fresh, cool water in bowls, as rabbits tend to drink more from bowls than bottles. Add a few ice cubes to their water to keep it chilled.

Grooming: Brush your rabbit to remove excess fur, especially if they are a long-haired breed. This helps their natural cooling system.

Dampen Ears: Gently mist or wipe the back of your rabbit's ears with cool water. Rabbits lose heat through their ears, and the evaporation will help cool them down.

Avoid Exercise: Do not let your rabbit exercise during the hottest parts of the day.

🚨 Urgent Heat Warning for Our Rabbit Community in KZN! 🚨

With temperatures in KwaZulu-Natal expected to reach a dangerous 37-38°C tomorrow, we must take immediate action to protect our beloved rabbits.

Rabbits are extremely susceptible to heatstroke, and this is a life-threatening condition. Unlike humans, they cannot sweat or pant effectively to regulate their body temperature. Their dense fur and inability to cool down make them highly vulnerable.

Symptoms of Heatstroke:

Lethargy and weakness
Rapid, shallow breathing or panting
Red, hot ears
Drooling or a wet nose
Shaking, wobbliness, or seizures
Collapse or unconsciousness

If you see these signs, act immediately and contact your veterinarian.

Our Story

Our love for rabbits started way back in 1994 and has been a passion ever since.

We are very active and vocal about rabbit care and although we are breeders, we are exceptionally particular about who we home our rabbits to. All new bunny owners are welcomed into our extended bunny family and we love to stay in contact.

Our little business has grown from strength to strength, with this year (2018) seeing the launch of our online shop. We realised that there was very little in the way of bunny toys and accessories here in South Africa, the vast majority being imported. Majority of our products are made by ourselves in our little workshop and all products go through stringent quality control with our own buns prior to being released to the public. Trade enquiries are welcome for all of our products.

We attend rabbit shows both in KwaZulu Natal and Gauteng, being members of both clubs. Our rabbits always do exceptionally well, which is a huge driving force for us as we continually strive to improve our breeds and to work on breeds that are in decline.
