Today it was the cats turn. We sterilised 27 cats in Welbedacht (Chatsworth). Thanks again to Shabnam from Stray Paws South Africa and Dr Lee and team.

On this International Dog day, what better way to acknowledge and celebrate dogs than to do a welfare steri clinic.

Thank you Shabnam from Stray Paws South Africa for all the love and care you show the dogs especially in poorer communities. We spent the day in Welbedacht where 15 dogs were given a better, healthier future with no more puppies. Our last dog came with her 6 week old puppies who were vaccinated and then got to enjoy a quick feed while Mum was resting, what a relief for her not to have any more puppies.

We have had a bit of a break in welfare steri clinics over the last month, but are heading back into a busy period starting off with our monthly clinic held yesterday, where a whopping 22 dogs were sterilised!

Everything ran smoothly with no hiccups and all dogs went home with a bag of dog food. Thanks as usual to all the Funda Nenja staff and volunteers and to Dr Lee and her team for another successful clinic.

Saturday was our monthly steri clinic for . We sterilised 20 dogs and a cat.

There were a few older dogs this time which can make surgery challenging and anaesthetic needs to be closely and carefully regulated. We also had a very nervous dog which ran away, twice, but thanks to the Funda Nenja team she was safely caught after trying to bite everyone, and had her surgery.

The cat was brought by the owner gently wrapped up in a blanket, he said he was worried she was already pregnant. After safely transfering her to a cat carrier, she was anaesthetised only for us to discover she was in fact a little boy! The owner was quite amused at his mistake.

We did our monthly steri clinic for this weekend where 29 cats were sterilised. Thanks to Sparkle Dental for offering your space for us to work in.

We finished early on Saturday so took a long walk along the Durban promenade which was so clean and being enjoyed by so many people. Kids cycling, skateboarding, people running, walking, fishing, walking dogs. We walked to the harbour and caught a glimpse of the cats that live there. A few years ago we did some clinics for at the Harbour and after the clinic watched them being released there. I wonder if these are still some of those cats? They looked very healthy and happy.
