ortunately, there is another side to the Siberian coin because of the very nature of his personality. People often take ownership of these dogs because of their unique and intriguing looks - only to discover very soon that they require hard work and dedication. The Siberian Husky is a companion animal with special needs, and as a result is a very misunderstood breed. People do not research the nature of this breed adequately before owning one, and are then often not able to meet the special needs of this breed. As a result, the Siberians end up abused, neglected or simply abandoned. Alternatively, they can find themselves locked up in animal shelters. The tragedy of this however, is that they are one of the most euthanased breeds because of their inability to cope with confinement for long periods.

Rubainia and Jayson Naicker from Insane Racing Midlands along with their team and two beautiful huskies, Chase and Ella, started December off with a bang by also choosing to do a dog food drive for

It was a misty Sunday afternoon when they arrived in convoy at 3pm to meet some of our rescues and drop off the food they had collected. So many beautiful photos were taken, it was very hard to choose which ones to post here.

A very grateful and heartfelt thanks to Rubainia and Jayson, and everyone at Insane Racing Midlands for choosing to support

Every donation counts. Every donation makes a difference. Without your support we cannot do what we do to help those in need.

Thank you, and may you be blessed for your generosity.

On the 12th of December they drove up to Husky Rescue Headquarters to handover the food they collected.

The Husky Express is undergoing a little metamorphosis!

This is one of those moments of 2025 that still take my breath away. This journey began in July, when we were given the opportunity to purchase the Shongweni Express at Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market The Shongweni Express is right next door to our , and it just felt like the right decision to make. And so began a new chapter in the Book of Husky Rescue KZN.

With the help of our amazing supporters we paid the deposit and are paying the balance off monthly. Once the loan is paid in full, The little red - soon to be repainted - Express is going to be 'choo-chooing' for all our Rescues.

In November the first step to rebrand the Shongweni Express to the Husky Express took place thanks to when the carriage name plates were changed.

The next stage happened last week when Ash, Mark and Rei from sponsored and actioned the rebranding of all our signs. Even though the train has been operating under our banner since August, it was a proud and very real moment seeing Husky Rescue in blue up on the sign boards.

Thank you to and for stepping up and making a dream come true.

The next stage will be happening soon... watch this space.

Where has 2025 gone....

In some ways, a blur, in other ways moments and memories that stand out and are still as real as the moment they happened. Good moments, bad moments and ugly moments. 2025 certainly has not been an average year!

However, as we say goodbye to 2025, it is the good moments I want to reflect on, with several very important thanks that are also very overdue.

I would like to start by thanking our two most recent donors.
There is a very special Angel who has in recent months, has been purchasing 50kgs of Montego at Hayfields Vet for us to collect. Our Earth Angel is not known to us, but we would like to take this opportunity to thank you non the less for your love and support.

Angelique from Durban North also did a collection for Animal Welfare, and after chatting with one of our Husky Adoption Family members, Tyler Maistry, decided to donate her collection to

And since I have mentioned , I would like to extend a very grateful thanks to the entire team for their professionalism and support during a very tough year for Husky Rescue KZN, dealing with several emergencies and sick dogs during the course of this year.

I also need to extend a grateful thanks to and for thier support during 2025. Our vets are an integral part of the work we do. And our vet clinics and staff have always been very gracious in supporting .

Our Story

Husky Rescue KZN is and NPO (077637) who rescues stray and unwanted huskies as far as our capacity and financial resources allows us to in KZN, South Africa. We treat, sterilize, microchip, rehabilitate and foster these huskies until we can find appropriate homes for them. Given their unique nature and needs, our adoption process is very strict. We take care of an average of 50 huskies at any given time. The running costs of taking care of our dogs are nothing short of R30 000 a month. Sometimes they are with us for as short a time as a week. Most of our dogs are with us for several months before we find them a good home. Some of our rescues have been with us since 2010 – we call them our Golden Oldies. The ‘Sibe’ is a breed unsurpassed by any other, except its relatives. The more familiar you become with this breed, the more you will grow to love his independent, intelligent and free-spirited personality. Unfortunately, there is another side to the Siberian coin because of the very nature of his personality.
