This is one of those little wee secrets with reactive dogs.🤫
If you are really struggling with your reactive dog and have never thought about u turns...this little gem has the amazing ability to help you both.

The biggest reason this helps?

It’s not what most people think.

It’s because you become more in tune with your dog’s body language those first subtle signs they’re becoming unsure, overexcited, or frustrated.

That is key!

Reading those tell tale signs allow you to help your dog and stop those reactions.
I really do appreciate some of these signs can be tricky to spot and they can happen fast !!!

Give it a go if you haven't tried it.
Well worth it.

No, it doesn't mean they want to dominate the world and all who inhabit it 👽
Though to be fair it can be a way to establish social status.
Or from frustration, or attention...and actually for a plethora of reasons.
Male or female, spayed or neutered, hu***ng is still possible.
Heightened energy?
Yup...
That energy has to go somewhere and play mates can be a target.
Favourite object, other dogs and even us.... we can all be be "love hugged".

Just adopted ?
They really need to know YOU before anything else.
They need time to slow down and realise they may be safe....but they aren't in that safety bubble yet.
We may think they are because we are providing them with what they need....but they have been through a LOT!
This is where decompression comes in.
It relaxes....it can help dogs to calm down.
It also clears a path to helping your new buddy realise they ARE safe.

No.
Longer training sessions do NOT help a reactive dog.
With a trainer, the session might seem longer than what we typically recommend for you at home and that’s normal. We structure it differently

❓Do you have to use a clicker.

No.
I used to use them a lot with reactive dogs, still do with some, some not at all and some spicy dogs....I phase them out when the time is right.
It is STILL a great tool to help get your timing right and it is a clear crisp marker.

🔮The "Predict" is a bit more involved than just looking for a trigger.

If you are working with me, I help to "tune" you into the environment.

"Did you hear that barking dog"
"Someone is about to start their lawnmower"
"That car has a lot of people in it, they are ALL about to get out"

THAT is a key area that helps enormously.

If you want to save this for a second look, it really can help
Revisit it and look at all the 5 P's👀 closely.

PS. Just trying some different borders in the next wee while.
Jazzing up the look a bit.
I'm a visual person so need to see how it all looks published.
Feel free to say how you feel or critique.

We have 17 Dogs over for Doggy Daycare today. Many people ask is how we do it, mostly we just supervise and intervene when necessary because we know each and every dogs personality, body language and cues. With so many dogs you can feel the energy levels being high most of the time and then at certain times it escalates and Cassie and Henry (wired haired terriers) starts barking he he.
What Doggy daycare does for the dogs is it socialises them with a lot of dogs and teaches them how to behave in different situations while we walk them about 10 kilometres for the day.
Our favourite part of a Wednesday is to see how excited the dogs are upon arrival but also to see them soooo happy to see their mom and dads in the afternoon. We love our mountain doggies so much!

I share post this at least twice a year, hopefully at least two sets of new eyes read it each time ❤️🐾

When you get your 8/10 week old puppies, please keep this image in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.

When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.

But when you're letting puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.

You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.

Once grown you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.
