We're a group of passionate volunteers committed to making a difference in the lives of animals in need in Greyton, Genadendal, Voorstekraal, Bereaville, Heuwelkroon, Bosmanskloof, and the surrounding farms. We provide a range of services that include; education, sterilisation, cruelty prevention, rescue, healthcare, boarding, an emergency service which operates 24/7, and a mobile clinic. We belie

ve every animal deserves a happy and healthy life and are dedicated to making that a reality. We are a registered NPO (060-902 NPO), so every donation you make goes directly to helping animals in need. Whether helping to spay or neuter a stray cat, providing medical care for an injured dog, or educating the community on responsible pet ownership, your support can make a huge difference. Bruno is the ultimate good luck charm. 🍀🐶 Just hear his story… but the luckiest person of all will be whoever gets to adopt him!

Bruno was bravely rescued by Douglas from Pam Golding Greyton and his wife, Chanel. Some heroes wear capes. Some sell houses.

Visit the GAWS kennels to meet Bruno and apply for adoption - but better make it quick. He’s very fast becoming a volunteer favourite and stealing hearts.

This is Zorro from Voorstekraal. 🐴❤️
He had an injury to the back of his fetlock joint but our team was on hand to help get things under control. After some careful treatment and a very effective pressure bandage, Zorro is ready for his recovery.

Our 12th puppy arrived at the kennels this week and as much as we love seeing them every day, we know they'll be better adjusted adults if they grow up in a foster home.

We’re looking for foster homes for puppies (and adult dogs & cats) who need a safe, loving place to grow while they wait for their forever families.

Are you the perfect foster fit:
☐ You have a safe space where a puppy or puppies can settle in, sleep and explore.
☐ You have time to spare for feeding, playtime, toilet training, cuddles and all the general puppy chaos.
☐ You’re patient. There will be accidents. There may be chewed slippers. There will be lots of excited love.
☐ You’re ready for the commitment. Foster care is temporary, but it’s still a responsibility.
☐ You can introduce a puppy to people, sounds, experiences and other animals in a safe and positive way.
☐ You’ll keep us updated on how your little foster is doing (photos please!), so we can support you and help them find the right home.
☐ You have room in your heart for a puppy who needs a safe place to grow. ❤️

We have had an influx of puppies (only one is ready for adoption, the others will be soon) and we need dog toys and blankets. Please drop off at at our stall at the Greyton Saturday Market or at our Charity Shop in Main Road.

Beautiful Zorba wasn’t feeling himself. Luckily, his humans were paying attention. 🐴❤️ Here’s what happened…

We were called to assist when this handsome boy from Genadendal stopped eating and drinking. After colic medication, something still didn’t seem right, so his responsible owners, Melanie Martin and David Coetsee, called in the vets from Overberg Dierehospitaal.

Despite it being a very rainy Sunday, the vets came out to treat Zorba. We continued monitoring him closely and were hugely relieved when he started eating grass, drinking water and, most importantly, passing manure again. 💚

A big thank you to Melanie and David for taking such good care of Zorba, acting quickly when something was wrong, and for donating to support other animals in our care. 🐾 P.S. We love Zorba's dreads. 🐴

Responsible owners make all the difference. 🥰

✂️ STERILISATION SUCCESS! 🐾
The rain may have been pouring, but it certainly didn't dampen our spirits.

On Thursday, 52 dogs and cats were successfully sterilised at the Moravian Hall thanks to the incredible dedication of the veterinary team, our hardworking volunteers, and GAWS staff.

Every sterilisation is an investment in the future. It helps prevent unwanted litters, reduces animal suffering, and eases the growing pressure on our rescue services.
With so many puppies recently arriving in our communities, and GAWS caring for vulnerable litters and often undernourished mothers, these clinics have never been more important. Prevention is always kinder than cure.

A heartfelt thank you to the amazing professionals who continue to support our communities, and to every volunteer and staff member who braved the cold and rain to make this day such a success.

Together, we are creating a better future for animals in the valley —one sterilisation at a time. ❤️🐾

🏡 Could You Open Your Home... Just for a Little While? 🐾

That is why GAWS is creating a Foster Home Register.

Our puppies are safe at GAWS, but what they really need is a home. Nothing can substitute a warm bed, gentle hands and a kind human to cuddle them.
These are all the things that help puppies grow into confident, well-adjusted dogs ready for their forever families.

Fostering is temporary. You provide the love and care, and we'll support you along the way while we search for the perfect permanent home.

Even if you can only help occasionally, or for a short period, we'd love to hear from you. Every foster home creates space for another animal in need and gives a puppy or an older dog the best possible start in life.

A Baby Having a Baby 💔
This tiny foal was born last night under heartbreaking circumstances.
She became trapped between a car and a wall shortly after birth and was rushed to safety by our own wonderfully caring Vernon at her Greyton Farm Animal Sanctuary.

We were able to locate her young mother, but she rejected her newborn, leaving us with no choice but to step in and feed the foal with a colostrum milk substitute to give her the best possible start.

Sadly, this is what can happen when mares become pregnant far too young.
A young mare is often still growing herself. She may not be physically or emotionally mature enough to cope with pregnancy, foaling or caring for her baby. The result can be rejection, poor milk production, difficult births, or foals that require intensive human care to survive.

This little one is now receiving around-the-clock attention, but not every foal is as fortunate.

Responsible horse ownership includes preventing young mares from breeding before they are mature. It is one of the simplest ways to improve the welfare of both mares and foals.

Please keep this little family in your thoughts as we do everything we can to give this precious foal the chance she deserves. ❤️
