Thanks a million KPS Tours & Safaris for still taking bookings from us..
Our volunteers seem to have a thing with elephant encounters.
Sorry for the second dent on your OSV taking out our volunteers and on many more years of doing business together..🐘

Some guests visit once and leave with memories. Some visit once and never quite manage to stay away🐴🌍

Meet Elli, on her fifth visit to Khaya Hanci, and still counting. From her very first ride through the African bush to the friendships, the horses, and the moments in between that are impossible to put into words, Elli has become part of the fabric of this place. And this place has become part of her.

Here’s what she had to say 👇

“Khaya Hanci became a very special place to me. I had the chance to experience South Africa in a way i couldn’t imagine before.

Discover stunning nature and wildlife from horses back, find my place in the daily farm routine and work with a herd of wonderful horses. Each one with their own story, background and training plan. To see their progress and growth is just fulfilling.

I lived together with a lot of funny and amazing people and created friendships that will last forever ♡

I learnt a lot about myself and where I belong. I’m forever thankful for all the amazing memories and experiences.

And it’ll allways be a see you again ♡”

That last line says it all, doesn’t it 🥰

Khaya Hanci is not just a destination, it’s the kind of place that gets under your skin in the best possible way. If you’ve been thinking about coming, let Elli’s story be the nudge you needed.

Your horses are waiting 🐴🖤

But, there's nothing we wouldn't change for these 2 little ones to arrive home safe !

There's always that one horse 🐴

The one standing a little further back while the others come in. Watching. Deciding. Not ready yet – and completely unbothered by your timeline.

Sometimes it's the one who takes three weeks longer than expected to simply enjoy your company without moving away. Sometimes it's the one who, the first time you sit on them, lets out a long slow breath – like they've been waiting for someone who understands without needing to be told.

Every volunteer finds theirs. Not always the most beautiful one (although the whole herd is beautiful to us), or the most forward, or the easiest. Often it's the one they can't fully explain – just a pull, a recognition, something that doesn't have a name yet.

That horse is usually the one who teaches you the most.

Not about horses. About patience. About what it means to want something to happen and choosing to wait anyway. About letting trust arrive in its own time, on its own terms, without making it about you.

They carry that horse home with them. Not in their luggage – in the way they move through the world a little differently afterwards.

We have a few of those horses here. We are grateful for every single one of them – and for every person who was exactly what they needed, right when they needed it 🥰

There is a specific quality to the silence after a long ride here.

The horses untacked and turned out. The dust settling. The light dropping. The particular sound of the bush at that hour – not quiet, the bush is never quiet – but changed. Slower.

Nobody really talks much.

We have noticed this with almost every group of guests and volunteers. Something happens in that hour that doesn't need commentary.

We have stopped trying to explain it. We just make sure it's part of every day ☀️
