Jake ❤️
I got a message from Jake's owner asking if I could help. I was pretty much their last hope. They had been told Jake would never walk again. He had damaged nerves in his spine jumping off a retaining wall. Their options were to either send him over the rainbow Bridge, do surgery which was out of their budget or just accept that this was the new normal. I wasn't sure what I could do for him and I couldn't guarantee anything but I was willing to give it my all.
I had to either wear slops or gumboots as he couldn't control his bladder and would just wee all over your feet while walking.
We did daily physio and 5 minute walks multiple times a day. We went to hydrotherapy and had massages, laser and physio 3 times. We gave it our all and watching how much stronger Jake got was incredible. Everyday it got better and better. Small milestones like standing on his own, taking those first few steps without me having to hold him up and guide him, regaining control of his bladder and actually able to bend down and wee without my help. Those were so rewarding. The best though was Jake's happy personality change. He became happier and happier and was always so excited to get up and move. Watching Jake in those last few days being able to walk entirely on his own filled me with such pride. While he still gets a speed wobble and has a fall here and there, he is still able to do it on his own and that's all that matters. He will never be able to be like a "normal" dog and run around, he is able to walk again and this is just start to him getting stronger and stronger 💪 Well done Jake! So proud of you!
