Alpha 10 works with T5 and TT™ 15 dog devices to monitor up to 20 dogs2 from up to 9 miles (depending on the dog device) with a 2.5-second update rate. Access multiple global navigation satellite systems (GPS and Galileo) to track in more challenging environments than GPS alone.

With up to a full week’s worth of battery life (40 hours of use), you’ll stay charged and ready for action, even on multiday trips.

Momentary and continuous stimulation options let you customize training for each dog (when paired with select dog devices). Issue different levels of audible tone or vibration commands for quick adjustments to individual dogs (when paired with select dog devices). Pair with the Garmin Explore app on your compatible smartphone to see real-time dog tracking information, save collections of dog tracks and replay tracks to see exactly what happened during your hunt. Track fellow hunters by pairing Alpha 10 with other compatible Alpha and Astro® handheld devices.

If you’re using a vehicle to follow and retrieve your dogs, the rugged Garmin Tread® off-road powersport navigator, the Garmin DriveTrack™ 71 car navigator or a Montana® 700 Series handheld (each sold separately) provide an easy-to-watch “big picture” solution. The moving map display shows dog positions overlaid on TOPO contours or satellite image views – along with navigation cues that help point you to your dog’s current location.

Greyhound Hunting
My honest opinion is that hunting with dogs is an ancient practice that we have evolved from. But currently it is being used as a desperate form of protein. But there is also allegations that huge amounts of cash are bet against the winners making it a money sport like dog racing.
This form of hunting happens all over South Africa and very little is done to control it. I often see them on farms early morning when most farmers haven’t left the compound yet. Confronting them becomes extremely dangerous when you are on your own or a small group, as often they hunt in gangs of about 10 people. The situation can quickly become tense and volatile when confronting them. As I have seen several videos posted on social media showing it. Farmers threaten to shoot their dogs and sometimes do, resulting in a tsunami of after effects from that action. If recognized as a sport and done within a certain criteria of rules making it ethical and sustainable they can be a huge contribution to Nature Conservation and the sport as a whole.
I believe It has to be approached by multiple angles.
Legislation, education, nature conservation and as a sport with sustainability in mind. Because as they are carrying on they will decimate the very echo system that they hunt. Leaving the grounds behind them baron.
I personally don’t have any objection to the hunting it just needs to be controlled better. Below are some points I would like implemented and enforced to protect our environment and the sport of hunting with dogs.
1. The dogs well cared for
2. Permission to hunt on the land
3. The dogs must not be doing the killing or catching just to bay the animals. So dogs must be muzzled and the hunter will dispatch the game if appropriate. Otherwise let it go and get his dogs under control.
4. Only animals that are permitted by the Local Conservation Authority to be hunted.
5. All hunters must be registered with a certain club or organization and carry a local provincial license to hunt.
The above is my opinion and ignoring this problem does not make it go away it just allows it to manifest into an environmental disaster.

Popping the FLUSH

Popping the flush or Shooting the flush is when your pointer has flushed the bird without pointing it and you then shoot that bird.
The dog is then rewarded by having a retrieve and you celebrate and praise your dog for bringing the bird to your bag.
By doing that you have created a behavioural problem that the pointer stops pointing and then just flushes. Congratulations you changed generations of breeding the Pointing breed to a flushing dog.

You have a beloved pointer Hunts like a champ finds birds every time but you notice the points are less and the flushes are more.
You wanting to keep your dog closer but you don’t know how and you losing birds because they flushing too far. So you resort to an E-Collar and now you think you ok.
Truth is you most probably ruined your dog by teaching it the bad habits and now you punishing your dog for your naivety.
From a young puppy you have to teach it teamwork you hunting together, hide in the long grass so they can panic and find you. Then provided you have taught the sit or whoa command every flush you give that command. You start noticing a body language when the puppy picks up scent. Again whoa or sit your puppy and then work slowly together to pin the bird. Once the bird is flushed a sit or whoa command. Eventually you will start getting staunch points.
Now if your dog is older and you have this behavioural problem that you created because you were POPPING THE FLUSH/ SHOOTING THE FLUSH. Then it’s back to basics it will take a lot of patience and restraint but every bird flushed don’t shoot instead give a sit or a whoa command. Don’t get angry because it’s your doing have a smoke or a drink of water and again. In the off season the same practice and always pay attention to the body language and stop them when close to scent and work together.
When you get your first point (provided it’s the season) shoot the bird and celebrate with praise and a nice retrieval, if it’s out of season praise that dog. It will take time but with repetition and lots of practise you will come right as a team.
Keep at it NEVER shoot the flushed birds it’s not about the quantity it’s about the quality of the teamwork.

I’m not a professional and it’s my view that I’m sharing.
