LOOKING FOR A MAINTENANCE GURU - CAN YOU HELP? 🙏❤️
Humans, we really need some help at our facility. Given the daily wear and tear, the floors of many of our kennels are cracking, and we need waterproofing in some areas to keep rain and cold at bay. If we could wave a magic fairy wand, it would be just INCREDIBLE if a maintenance guru, or team, could swoop into our kennels and give it a bit of TLC 🤩 This is home to the 80 precious furry orphans in our care, and we need to make sure it is safe, warm, and dry.

DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO COULD HELP?
We know there will be costs. Perhaps if we put our heads together we can figure it all out. One step at a time.

OUR LITTLE "VLOOI" APPRECIATES HER BLANKETS! ❤️🙏
This video clip melts the heart. Our Supervisor, Mkhululi, sent it to us this morning. One of the smallest little dogs in our care, VLOOI, had wrapped herself in her blankets to ward off the evening cold. We wish our bigger dogs could take some lessons from her! THANK YOU for your donations of blankets 🥰. This clip is a direct testament to the way your blanket donations bring comfort to our shelter dogs. It is absolutely ESSENTIAL as we head into the heart of winter on the highveld.

You will see Vlooi's kennel buddy, Roxy, looking on with big eyes. These 2 little Jack Russell girls are both SENIORS (10 and 9), and we desperately wish for a good home for them. They were surrendered a few months ago when their elderly human Dad went into a physical rehabilitation centre. They were both shell-shocked at the abrupt change in their lives :( From being doted on, to becoming orphans - in the blink of an eye. Last week, we heard the truly sad news that their human Dad had passed away 💔

This is an incredible duo working against unimaginable odds. They have little to no support from their local community and service a huge area where there is no SPCA. Please like / follow their page and support their work 🙏💔

🚨 A little truth from the frontlines of rescue work 🚨

We are a private rescue organisation.
We receive no funding from government or municipality departments.
We survive on donations and the kindness of our community. That’s it.

Karen and I (Joanne) became animal welfare inspectors—not because it was easy or profitable—but because no one else in Zeerust was willing to do it.
We now carry Magisterial authorisation, but here’s the kicker: since then, our support has actually dropped. Go figure.

We cover the entire Ramotshere Moiloa area. Just the two of us.
One vehicle. One reserve light that’s seen more action than most rescue units.
No big staff team, no admin department. We do EVERYTHING—from emergency response to feeding, cleaning, driving, investigating, and yes, writing reports too.

Our complaint list is longer than our list of helpers.
We do what we can with what we’ve got. We triage. We prioritise.
And yes, we must follow the law, even if the process isn’t to everyone’s liking.

Please understand—when you send WhatsApps demanding replies, and when our visits don't match the scenes you're reporting, that’s precious time taken from urgent cases.
We get it—your case matters. It weighs on you.
But we’re juggling 20+ others that weigh just as heavily on us.

🐾 In a perfect world, all animals would sleep indoors.
In a perfect world, your personal dislike for someone or a past neighbour dispute wouldn’t result in false or exaggerated claims of abuse or neglect.
💔 Making unfounded reports wastes time and resources that could be saving an animal truly in need.

⚖️ How we resolve a situation may not always be to your personal liking, but it’s done legally and within the scope of the Animal Protection Act.
We will not break the law, and we will not abuse our Magisterial authorisation—no matter how pressured we are.

🙏 All we ask is for understanding, patience, and support.
We’re here, we’re trying, and we’re not giving up. But we can't do it alone.

Shelter dogs do not have a nice soft couch or padded bed underneath them so, they need a few blankets to keep them warm. Large breed dogs need even more. With 2000 blankets we could make such a difference to the dogs of Paws R Us: SA, The Dogs Trust, Dogtown South Africa and Happy Yappers Animal Sanctuary NPO 119-872 and we can keep them warm this Winter.
