Today the foundation phase had a wonderful and educational experience on the animal farm field trip!
We've learned about.
1. Life and death cycles on a farm, understanding the natural processes of birth, growth, and eventually, death.
2. How to use your 5 senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell) to explore and appreciate the farm environment.
3. The changing seasons (spring, summer, autumn, and winter) and how they impact the farm and its inhabitants.
4. Overcoming fears or anxieties by facing and interacting with animals and farm activities.
It was a great way to learn about science, nature, and life skills in a hands-on and immersive way! It was a memorable experience.

Animal Farm Fochville offers kids the opportunity to interact with animals in a safe environment which is both fun and educational! Our 🐰 Bunnies are looking forward 🐇 to meeting you when you are visiting us.

Today a few fun facts about 🐰Bunnies!🐇

🐇Rabbit facts

Cute, fuzzy, fluffy and hopping mad, who doesn’t love these adorable creatures, also known as bunnies? Check out our top ten 🐰 rabbit facts!🐇

🐰 A baby rabbit is called a kit, a female is called a doe and a male is called a buck.

🐰 Rabbits are very social creatures that live in groups. They live in warrens — a series of tunnels and rooms that they dig underground.

🐰 A rabbit’s teeth never stop growing! Instead, they’re gradually worn down as the rabbit chews on grasses, wildflowers and vegetables — meaning they never get too long.

🐰 Rabbits perform an athletic leap, known as a ‘binky‘, when they’re happy — performing twists and kicks in mid air!

🐰 Rabbits’ eyes are on the sides of their head, meaning they can see almost all the way around them. This helps them to keep a close watch for predators while they’re going about their business!

🐰 Like cats, happy rabbits purr when they’re content and relaxed.

🐰 Rabbits are amazing athletes — they can jump as high as 90 centimetres in one leap!

🐰 A rabbit’s best feature? Their long ears! Growing up to 10 centimetres in length, rabbits can turn their ears by 180 degrees, keeping a careful listen out for predators.

🐰 One of the world’s best-known rabbits is the Warner Bros cartoon character, Bugs Bunny — who’s often seen munching on a carrot! In fact, carrots aren’t a natural part of a rabbit’s diet and can give bunnies an upset stomach if they eat too many.

🐰 Rabbits are very effective baby-makers! Mother rabbits are pregnant for between 28-31 days, giving birth to up to 14 baby rabbits – called kittens – in a single litter. There are over 45 million rabbits in the UK alone!

DID YOU KNOW??? …. The largest bird on Earth also has the largest 👀eyes of any land animal

Ostriches are weird and delightful for many reasons, but did you know they have the largest 👀eyes of any land animal?

We're going to put it out there: ostriches are weird, but they are also very cool. Not only are they the largest bird on the planet, growing up to 2.8 meters (9.2 feet) tall but they are also the fastest flightless birds out there.

But did you also know that they also have the largest 👀eyes of any land animal? In fact, their 👀eyes are so large that they dwarf their own brains by comparison. Ostrich 👀eyes are really big. They are about 2 inches (5 cm) across, which makes them about five times larger than a human 👁️eye.

A sustainable future - Earth Day 22 April 2024

The impact of our choices and ways to make a difference. We can make a positive impact on our planet, so let’s start today.

The focus this year is on a pressing environmental challenge – plastic pollution. The theme for 2024 – PLANET VS PLASTICS – emphasizes the urgent need to address the detrimental impacts of plastics on human health and the environment. serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard our planet for current and future generations.

It calls for action from individuals, organizations and governments worldwide to tackle the plastic crisis head-on, ensuring the Earth remains a viable home for all its inhabitants. Let's keep the momentum by empowering our loved ones to make sustainable choices that benefit both you and the planet through a more sustainable lifestyle. Join us in making a positive impact on the planet by reducing your carbon footprint.

This year, Earth Day organizers – EARTHDAY.ORG – are channeling efforts into combating the pervasive issue of plastic pollution. Research has increasingly shown that micro plastics, tiny fragments into which plastics degrade, pose significant risks, leaching toxic chemicals into the environment and disrupting human health. These risks range from ALZHEIMER’s disease to MALE INFERTILITY and even OBESITY.

Particularly alarming is the impact of micro plastics on INFANTS, with emerging studies suggesting that these particles CAN DISRUPT MATERNAL-FETAL COMMUNICATION and potentially cause GENETIC DAMAGE. Further associations have been made with NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS such as AUTISM, HORMONAL DISRUPTIONS manifesting as early onset puberty, and links to various CANCERS.

Today a few fun facts about 🐥chickens!

🐥Chickens can distinguish between more than 100 faces of their own species. Looks like elephants aren’t the only ones who have a great memory
🐥Chickens know who’s boss—they form complex social structures known as “pecking orders,” and every chicken knows his or her place on the social ladder.
🐥Chickens have full-color vision—no color-blindness here!
🐥Who likes to sunbathe? Apparently everyone—humans, cats, dogs, and chickens too! You can’t blame them, and they don’t even need sunscreen.
🐥Chickens are real sleeping beauties—they experience rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, which means they dream just like we do.
🐥Chickens have pain receptors that give them the ability to feel pain and distress. Put yourself in the shoes (or the feathers) of a battery hen—or 452 million of them, which is how many are used for their eggs each year.
🐥Hens defend their young from predators. Looks like calling someone a “chicken” is actually a compliment!
🐥Who needs pepper spray? Chickens have more than 30 types of vocalizations to distinguish between threats.
🐥Chickens are just like human mothers who talk to their babies in the womb—a mother hen begins to teach calls to her chicks before they even hatch.
🐥Last but not least, chickens are adorable—take a look for yourself!

Facing your fears
When we are afraid of something, it can be tempting to avoid it.

Although this might bring relief in the short term, avoiding situations can make them harder to face up to and mean that our fears grow.

If instead we gradually expose ourselves to situations we fear, we can start to overcome them and feel more in control. This is sometimes called exposure therapy.
