What if it's not just the money?

What if it's not even the ribbon chasing?

These aspects of the industry might be a symptom, not the cause.

We all need to take a closer look at how we see horses.
The rider Mom's who chooses to skip the groundwork/ flatwork lessons for their kid's because they "just want them to have fun"
This is where the kids learn it"s " just a horse'. Just a tool for their entertainment.

It's the rider choosing to keep using harsh tools, because it "takes too long to train them better"

It choosing harsh tools because " I can't compete without them"

It's me getting frustrated with my horse because they don't nail that move for an Instagram post.. Because I haven't put the time in.

It's the farrier tying up a horses foot "just to get the job done"

It's the person tying a horse to a pole with no preparation to "teach them patience"
Or tying a foal to a donkey to " halter train".

It's the instructor telling a student to whip their horse to "stop dangerous behavior."

It's that breeder chasing horses to get great movement shots for marketing.

If Isit long enough I can fill a book, and half of the cases might be me, or have been me.

We ALL need to take responsibility for the truth that's bubbling out of the industry. All is not well.
It isn't new.
Only the exposure is new.

I can assure you it doesn't suddenly happen at the top because of competition pressure.
It happens every day of the week at a thousand different riding schools, trail outfits and a hundred farm yards.
The pointing needs a break and we need to put up our hands if we truly want the lives of horses to improve.

If you feel you have it all perfect.. That's one of the most dangerous attitudes for anyone in a relationship with another sentient being.

In our human relationships, and our horse relationships, we should always be looking at how we can be a better partner.
