Spirocerca lupi is a parasitic worm that can affect dogs of any age, but the problems usually appear later in life. This worm is mainly carried by dung beetles, although birds, lizards, and small rodents can also carry the parasite. Once inside the dog, the worm migrates and can cause esophageal granulomas, as seen in the image above. A common symptom is vomiting right after eating.

As with most things, prevention is better than cure! Milbemycin is highly effective at eliminating the worm before it causes any issues. Regular deworming with products containing milbemycin or moxidectin is strongly recommended. 🐾

Pop into any of our clinics and ask for a dewormer like Milbemax!

It seems to be that time of the year again😫Our clinics are seeing an increase in Parvo-enteritis cases.

Parvo is a very preventable disease through correct vaccination. Treatment is difficult, costly and not always successful 😔Please ensure that your dogs and especially puppies, are vaccinated against this dreadful disease.

Creepy crawly! 🐛 This video shows an intestinal roundworm under the microscope 🔬. It was present in a stool sample of a puppy 🐶 at one of our clinics.

Worms are nasty and make puppies, particularly, quite ill 🤢. We recommend deworming puppies from 2 weeks of age every 2 weeks until they are 3 months old. Adult dogs should be dewormed every 3-4 months. All our clinics stock safe and effective deworming remedies 💊.

‼️Urgent ..Life or Death situation

Seeking the people who dropped a brown tan puppy off at the SPCA PIETERMARITZBURG on Sunday afternoon 14 July 2024. THE DOG HAD RABIES! Their lives are in imminent danger and they could die of rabies in the next few weeks. They require immediate treatment... please help us find these people... they need to go to the nearest government hospital for free treatment.

The virus enters the body through a bite or contact with saliva from an infected animal.. The puppy was extremely aggressive and probably bit people prior to surrender.... once the virus seats itself in a nerve death is 100%... successful treatment depends on time and they have hours before it is too late.

Please *urgently* contact the *PMB SPCA. 0333869267*

As the temperature drops, it's important to remember that our pets feel the cold too. Bring them inside to keep them safe and cozy. A warm bed, plenty of water, and lots of love can make all the difference. Stay warm, everyone! ❄️❤️
