🎉Congratulations🎉 to all the winners of The Canine Good Citizenship show that was held on the 30th of November 2025 at Witbank & Middelburg K9 Club.

The Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) test is a formal assessment designed to prove that a dog is well-mannered, stable, obedient, and safe in public. Think of it as your dog’s “good manners certificate” — the passport that says, “Yes, this canine has manners finer than most humans at a Black Friday sale.”

Here’s what it normally covers:

1. Accepting a Friendly Stranger

Dog must stay calm while someone approaches the handler politely.

2. Sitting Politely for Petting

Dog allows gentle petting without jumping like an excited kangaroo.

3. Appearance & Grooming Check

A quick inspection of ears, paws, coat — showing the dog is comfortable being handled.

4. Loose-Leash Walking

The dog walks under control without dragging the handler like a sled dog in the Iditarod.

5. Walking Through a Crowd

Dog remains calm around people, noise, and activity.

6. Sit, Down & Stay

Basic obedience commands proving reliability.

7. Recall (“Come When Called”)

Dog happily returns when called — not two hours later after sniffing every blade of grass.

8. Reaction to Another Dog

Polite behaviour when passing another dog — no drama, no soap-opera moments.

9. Reaction to Distractions

Dog keeps composure when exposed to loud noises or sudden movements.

10. Supervised Separation

Dog stays calm while handler leaves for a short period.

In short, the CGC test shows the dog is safe, obedient, and socially responsible, and the handler has good control and teamwork with their dog. It’s a fantastic achievement for any pet owner and an excellent foundation for more advanced training.

Puppies in Working Trials are not here to compete…
They’re here to make everyone fall in love while learning the basics of greatness.

Yes — the paws are too big.
Yes — the attention span is 17 seconds (on a good day).
Yes — they will try to eat the jump pole.
And yes… we are proud anyway. 😌

Because this stage is about:
• Confidence building
• Curiosity encouraged
• Play with purpose
• Tiny wins that feel HUGE

We don’t rush.
We don’t drill.
We celebrate the wiggles and wobbles, because that’s how champions start.

One day they’ll track, scale, retrieve and heel with precision…
For now, we’re just clapping like Olympic judges when they remember which direction we’re walking.

🎖️ Small paws. Big futures.
We’re raising working dogs — one silly, proud puppy moment at a time.

We are extremely proud of Dog and Damien Fourie. We started our journey with them at the beginning of this year and it has been amazing to see them work and grow.

It is also a new chapter in the Working Trials world!

Dog is the first Australian Cattledog to compete and qualify in Working Trials – Companion Dog level in South Africa.
