Broken but not defeated...
I want to share someone very special. Someone who, to me, symbolises exactly what we mean when we say 'everyone deserves a chance'. Meet my little Meg. Named after her incredible rescuer and angel Meghan Lotter Meghan found Meg crawling and bone thin at an office park in Midrand while she was having a meeting there. She managed to get her into a box with the help of chicken bones which was all she could find, get the box into her car, fetch me and head off to a vet in Observatory to end her suffering. But what we found there was not a dying wild feral but a weak from starvation, gentle, afraid, broken little soul π₯Ί So we took a chance and tested her for Felv/Fiv. The result would tell us what to do. Negative! We took her home! It was my Anniversary 14 April. So Meg has been with me for a little more than 2 months. Sadly her progress has been slow but it's still progress. From under 2kg of bones Meg is now 3,2 kg with a fat belly that lead me to believe she had FIP and resulted in an unpleasant vet visit with needles and x- raysπ There have been several vet visits since and she is under the care of Dr. Christie at Eastleigh vet. Meg has kidney problems and is on kidney food and medication, a broken chest bone from being hit by a car, what appears to be a needle in her body as seen on x-rays. We don't know her age. Life hasn't been kind. Meg doesn't/cannot purr. Her right eye and nose seep a lot, her scabs on her nose bleed if I'm not very careful. She has had injections for this but they don't seem to help. So I wash that little face with cotton wool and warm water every day. She moves her face with the cotton wool, she seems to enjoy this time of day. I comb her coat daily, she is shedding a lot currently. And then we have her favourite thing, from what I can tell. The deep ear tickle which has her pressing her head down flat in her bed on the side being tickled. Meg spends 90% of her life in her bed which she loves. I need to get another so that I can wash hers π€ When she moves she slinks very low to the ground and very slowly-she doesn't appreciate me catching her in motion! She eats her meals(not while I'm looking) as if every one is her last. She enjoys fine dining. She uses her sandbox like a little lady. She has a heater on every night and I've given her two very senior brother companions(also needing a lifeline). While I sometimes have wondered in the past whether I'm doing the right thing for Meg I don't regret the decision to give her a chance at happiness. I think we're getting there. I love her more and more as time goes on, I hope she is feeling the love. I haven't given up on one day feeling that purr. Thank you Meghan for being Megs angel and for being her monthly sponsor β€οΈ
