Red came to us in critical condition following a motor vehicle accident. Her injuries were severe: multiple pelvic fractures and a life-threatening rupture to the right side of her diaphragm. Since the diaphragm is the vital muscle that allows a patient to breathe, a tear this large was an absolute emergency. While our dedicated nursing team manually assisted her breathing, two of our veterinarians performed a high-stakes surgery to repair the damage. Red proved to be a total superstar! She recovered beautifully from surgery, and her pelvis is healing well. We’re so proud of her progress and hope she’ll be back to practicing her herding skills in no time!

January patient of the month🐾

‘Socks’ :  A very special, very old , Jack Russell Terrier

Socks is not so steady on his pins anymore and whilst on holiday in St Francis in December he suffered a fall down a flight of stairs. He was taken to a local vet there who diagnosed him with internal bleeding.

He came back to East London late on a Sunday evening where Dr Roger and AHT Taya were ready and waiting for him. Pre Surgical blood work showed a degree of renal failure which was going to make a surgery more risky and the anaesthetic more complicated.

After consultation with his humans it was decided to give him a chance as, despite being 17 years young, and with some renal issues and some arthritis, he had still been enjoying a good quality of life prior to his fall.

A blood transfusion was started immediately, the theatre was prepped and we were ready to go. Exploratory surgery was performed which showed a ruptured spleen.

His spleen was removed and its supplying blood vessels all tied off. His abdomen was then closed up and he awoke from the general anaesthetic.

After a few days in hospital under the care of our wonderful vets and nursing team he was reunited with his humans and has gone back to being the best dog he can be.

Well done Socks and well done Team. You are all incredible.
