This is baby Ash. She’s sitting so proudly on that scale, and she has every reason to be 🥹
When she came to us at 4 and a half weeks old, she weighed just 159 g. She was so weak and so malnourished that we honestly didn’t know if she would make it through the night 💔
A healthy kitten her age should weigh around 450 to 500 g. Ash weighed about a third of that.
Today she’s just over 5 weeks old and weighs 192 g. To most people, 33 g doesn’t sound like much. To us, it’s everything. It’s every feed she fought through, every night her foster mom sat up with her, and every time she refused to give up 💪
But she’s not out of the woods yet. Ash needs specialised kitten formula, round the clock feeding and close vet care to catch up, and every day matters.
If you ever find a tiny kitten, please remember:
🐾 Never give cow’s milk or evaporated milk. Kittens can’t digest it properly, and it can cause diarrhoea and dehydration, which is very dangerous for babies this small.
🐾 Keep them warm before trying to feed them. A cold kitten can’t digest food.
🐾 Contact a vet or rescue as soon as possible, even if the kitten seems okay. Tiny kittens can go downhill very quickly, and early help can be the difference between life and death.
We don’t share this to point fingers. Most people simply don’t know, and that’s exactly why we want to help spread the word.
