Is a social enterprise that aims at providing disadvantaged communities with the necessary training and mediums in order for them to sustainably grow their own vegetables at their homes. We manufacture and supply fully stocked vegetable boxes s to the consumer who does not have sufficient space to grow their own vegetables.These boxes are perfect for people living in informal settlements, flats or

backyard dwellers where space is limited or is the ground is badly polluted. The boxes are also great for plant based enthusiasts who would love to grow their own food but due to limited space(apartment or flats) cannot grow their own vegetables. These boxes are sold on a 2 for 1 model - meaning that for every 2 boxes sold 1 will be distributed to a disadvantaged household in need. In addition we also supply a wide variety of vegetable seedlings and plants, in wholesale, for various industries. GrowBox aims to take basic food nutrition to the people who needs it the most, while fostering the development of sustainable and eco-friendly practices. No matter your background or community, GrowBox can have a positive and healthy impact on your lifestyle.

🌱💚 Growing More Than Plants at GrowBox

Today we welcomed the Cape Town Multipurpose Centre for their monthly session at GrowBox - and what a lovely morning of getting their hands into the soil! 🌿

Today’s task? Planting violas. 🌸

But the real growth was happening beyond the plants.

For young people who may face difficult circumstances, gardening can be so much more than simply learning how to grow something. It can provide a safe space to focus, slow down, follow instructions, work as a team and experience the satisfaction of completing a task from beginning to end.

And they didn’t stop when the planting was done! 🙌
At the end of the session, everyone helped clean and pack away the area - taking responsibility for the space they had worked in.

And then came the best part… 🌱

Each participant got to take a 6-pack punnet of violas back to the Centre, where they can plant and care for them there too. 🌸💚

Because sometimes, planting a little flower is about so much more than the flower.

It’s about patience. Concentration. Responsibility. Achievement. Confidence. And knowing: “I did this.”

At GrowBox, we believe that when we grow plants, we have an opportunity to grow people too.

🌿✨ PLANT OF THE DAY: CAPE IVY ✨🌿

Meet Senecio angulatus, better known as Cape Ivy or Climbing Groundsel - a beautiful succulent scrambling perennial that is indigenous to South Africa, including the Western Cape. 🇿🇦🌱

With its fleshy, glossy green leaves and cheerful yellow daisy-like flowers, Cape Ivy brings a gorgeous splash of colour to the garden, especially when many other plants are taking a winter breather. 💛

🌿 Why we love it:
• Indigenous to our part of South Africa
• Drought-tolerant once established
• Succulent foliage helps it cope with dry conditions
• A vigorous scrambling plant that can spill beautifully over walls, banks and raised areas
• Those bright yellow flowers add a lovely pop of colour

Cape Ivy is a vigorous grower and can spread quickly. In the right conditions it can smother other vegetation.

For Western Cape gardens, it can be a fantastic choice when you want texture, movement and a touch of indigenous Cape character - just keep those adventurous stems in check! 😉

🌱 WHAT A MORNING! 🌱

A misty Saturday morning didn’t stop our garden growers! ☁️🌿

We had a FULL HOUSE at today’s food gardening workshop, and we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who came out and spent their morning with us - learning, sharing, asking questions and getting their hands (and minds!) into the wonderful world of growing food. 🥬🌱

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us. It was so special meeting so many interesting people who share our passion for growing food, creating healthier communities and making the most of the spaces we have. 💚

And a very special thank you to Sue from Nuno Sue Kingma for being such an amazing facilitator! 🌿 Your knowledge, energy and engaging way of sharing made the morning both informative and lots of fun. We learned so much!

From soil mixes and seeds to seedlings, natural feeding, pests, fungus and growing successfully in containers - there was plenty of good stuff to take home and put into practice. 🌱

We had a great time, met some wonderful people and, most importantly, kept growing! 🌿

The Mowbray Market takes place on the first Saturday of every month, and this month we'll be there on 1 August.

🌱 Top 12 in Cape Town! 🌱

Last night marked the end of our Cape Talk Nedbank Business Ignite journey. While we didn't take home first place, we are incredibly grateful to have been selected as one of the Top 12 finalists from over 740 applications across South Africa.

This recognition is a reminder that our vision matters.

GrowBox was built on the belief that everyone deserves access to fresh food, opportunities, and the dignity that comes with being able to provide for themselves. As a social enterprise, our mission has always been to create lasting impact through food security, skills development, and economic opportunity in marginalized communities.

Today's garden maintenance included:
🌱 Removing w**ds from between the courtyard paving stones.
🌱 Clearing w**ds along the outside verge of the property.
🌱 Cleaning and tidying up the garden beds.
🌱 Applying an organic w**d killer between the paving stones and pathways to help slow w**d growth during our wet winter season.
