XSIT XSIT is an effective, environmentally friendly foundation of an IPM system for False Codling Moth For more information visit our website.

XSIT makes use of the sterile insect technique (SIT) methodology to suppress FCM within agricultural areas focusing on citrus, table grapes and stone fruit production in the Eastern, Western and Northern Cape Provinces of South Africa. With South Africa being the world’s second-largest citrus exporter and a zero-tolerance for phytosanitary pests in the global export market - XSIT ensures local pro

ducers can remain globally competitive by providing a platform to which an integrated pest management (IPM) programme can be overlaid. In principle, SIT is a tool which can be used in an IPM programme whereby masses of FCM are reared, sterilized, and released in areas where FCM is a problem. Our production facility is located in Citrusdal where millions of moths are reared for distribution across more than 18 000 hectares of fruit located in the Oliphants River Valley, Breeder River Valley, Hex River Valley, Gamtoos River Valley, Sundays River Valley, and Kakamas. XSIT is a highly effective organic and scientific approach to suppression of FCM, where data analysis and meticulous quality control form part of every step of the process to ensure sustained and consistent improvement of FCM suppression.

☢️ Unlike chemical pesticides, XSIT’s Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) targets only one species: the False Codling Moth (FCM).

Sterile FCM moths are released into orchards to find wild FCM moths, steadily reducing the pest population. Every successful mating event actively suppresses the next generation of the pest.

Because SIT is species-specific, it doesn’t harm beneficial insects or any other organisms in the orchard. And with no chemical residues on fruit, soil, or water, growers avoid residue-related export risks entirely.

This is why XSIT’s SIT programme fits seamlessly into integrated pest management (IPM) frameworks and aligns with international sustainability standards like GLOBALG.A.P., giving growers a future-proof, environmentally responsible alternative.

📈 Every step in the sterile insect production process requires precision, skill, and consistency, and our team continues to raise that bar.

Our XSIT team recently took an Extrusion Process Operations course on our Extruder to enhance their understanding of preparing diet material for larval growth in insect production.

After completing an evaluation test, our staff were awarded certificates in recognition of their efforts and success.

It’s moments like these that remind us that excellence isn’t achieved overnight; it’s built through constant learning, collaboration, and commitment to quality.

🌿𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗫𝗦𝗜𝗧!

Charlene Scott is representing our team at the 24th ESSA Congress with her research on gamma vs. X-ray irradiation for sterilising False Codling Moth – a key part of our SIT programme.

👏Big applause for Charlene and her dedication to sustainable pest control through science!

🍇🍊Behind every fruit shipment is a network of protection.

International Fruit Day emphasises the global importance of fruit, and we are proud to participate in efforts that help preserve this value from orchard to export.

Early detection is key to protecting your crops from False Codling Moth (FCM). Monitoring your orchards remain a priority! Keep an eye out for:
✅ Entry holes & rind discoloration
✅ Larvae inside suspect fruit
✅ Small pellet-like frass droppings
✅ Adult FCM presence in orchards
✅ Premature fruit drop

Stay ahead of infestations with XSIT’s monitoring services and population suppression!
