Shrimp and Things: the story continues.....
Shrimp and Things was founded in early 2016 by aquarium enthusiast Ramon Meiring. Ramon set out to offer other hobbyists top quality fresh water shrimp, guppies and a range of aquatic plants. Over the next two years he successfully bred and sold both Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp, shipping them to all parts of the country. With time he gained a respectful reputation and a following of many fellow shrimp keepers but with life changes decided to sell his shrimp business and move down to George in the Cape.
My friend, and now business partner, Gerrit van Niekerk was looking to buy 2 yellow shrimp to add to his growing collection. When making contact with Shrimp and Things he learned that the business was no longer trading and was currently up for sale. Gerrit relayed this to me and after long discussions we decided to go view the set up and see what stock was being offered for sale.
We were met by Ramon’s son Marco, who is currently writing his matric, who showed us around, explaining the various tanks and plant ponds. Although most tanks were empty of shrimp and taken over with algae there was a good infrastructure to work with albeit with the knowledge that lots of cleaning and renovation of tanks was needed to restore Shrimp and Things. A gentleman’s agreement was shaken upon and we would take over end of August.
It took us 2 days, 2 bakkies and 5 trips to relocate all the tanks, ponds, plants and stock. Since then we have scrubbed and cleaned, repainted, installed lights, air pipes and electricity cables. Tanks are full and filters are busy cycling. Still lots to do but all rather exciting as we gear up for our new stock and re launch end of October.
I have attached some pictures of our progress so far and will continue posting additional pictures to keep you all up to date. Thank you for your support and we look forward to dealing with you in the near future.
Happy tanking
