Today, we honor the life and legacy of Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Pat Titlestad, a man whose contributions to both The Official Umvoti Mounted Rifles and the Okusha International Equestrian Centre have left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Pat’s unwavering passion for horses and polo was matched only by his commitment to service. His vision and dedication helped forge a lasting connection between Okusha and the Umvoti Mounted Rifles—a bond that has enriched both communities for years.

Thanks to his leadership, we had the privilege of participating in the KZN Military Tattoo for many years, and riding proudly in the Freedom of Entry parade in eThekwini (Pietermaritzburg and Pinetown) as part of the Regiment’s 150th Anniversary celebration. These experiences remain highlights of our history, made possible by Pat’s tireless efforts and deep love for both the military and the equestrian world.

Thank you, “Uncle Pat,” for everything you’ve done to bring us together and for the legacy you leave behind.

Your spirit lives on in every ride, every salute, and in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know you.

You will never be forgotten. Your legacy continues to inspire us all.

With minimal time to acclimate, the challenge intensifies, requiring impeccably trained horses and riders to galloping side by side with swords and lances.
