An egg - small, pale and fragile - is easily overlooked, but our home hen's first egg today was a celebration. Her comb looked pinker yesterday and she woke up wanting cuddles. She kept running back inside instead of scrabbling in the garden. By the time she hopped into a sock drawer I was holding my breath. About an hour later, it was there among the socks, as hot as her feet when she's happy.
