Ever Heard of Rectoa**l Polyps in Cats?
Don’t worry - most pet parents haven’t! Here’s a quick, friendly heads-up about this (thankfully rare) condition.
Rectoa**l polyps are small, flap-like growths that form inside a cat’s re**um or just at the a**l opening. Most of the time, they’re non-cancerous, but they can make the litter box uncomfortable.
🐱 What to Look Out For
Cats with polyps may show:
* straining or discomfort when passing stool
* mucus or blood on the stool
* signs of pain around the back end
🩺 How Vets Find Them
Diagnosis is usually done through a manual examination by your vet (yep - no fancy imaging needed). Sometimes a colonoscopy is used to check for additional growths.
✂️ Treatment
Polyps are typically removed with a small surgical procedure, followed by:
* pain relief
* antibiotics (if needed)
* stool softeners to help healing
Most cats with a single polyp recover well and don’t have relapses - especially with proper follow-up checks.
If you ever notice blood, straining, or discomfort when your cat uses the litter box, a quick vet visit is always the way to go. 🧡🐾
