Two years ago today, I lost my precious Bunny, Jewel. ๐Ÿ’”

I loved her so deeply, and I still do. Some days, I can look at her pictures and videos and smile, remembering her little quirks and the joy she brought into my life. Other daysโ€”like todayโ€”I crumble, missing her so much it hurts.

But I take comfort in knowing sheโ€™s watching over me, her spirit still close, still part of my heart. I miss you endlessly, my sweet Jewel. ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ‡

To the friends of the individual I posted about, who are now attacking me and calling me names,

You can make me the villain in your story, but you are the clown in mine.

Let me be clear: this was NOT a client, nor do I know this person. No personal information was shared.

If you are more offended by me speaking out than by the fact that an animal with a broken spine went without vet care for 16 days, then you are part of the problem.

Animals deserve better. When finances are tight, there are always options, such as:

1) Surrendering the animal to a vet, who can then provide treatment and care without requiring payment.

2) Requesting medical assistance from the SPCA or other animal welfare organizations. The SPCA never refuses help to animals in need.

3) Organizing a fundraiser, such as a GoFundMe campaign, to cover veterinary expenses.

Doing nothing is not one of them.

I will always advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Hate me all you want, but my heart is always for animal welfare first.

Let me add that this incident happend at a school. RABBITS ARE NOT PETS FOR CHILDREN.

This morning, I was contacted by someone seeking advice about their bunny who was ๐ฌ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ข๐ง๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐, apparently with a possible ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐ข๐ง๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฒ, as her hind legs were dragging and she couldn't clean herself. The owner was understandably distressed, but also ๐ฎ๐ง๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž ๐จ๐ซ ๐ฎ๐ง๐ฐ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐จ ๐ ๐ž๐ญ ๐ฏ๐ž๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐š๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ก๐ž๐ฅ๐ฉ due to financial constraints.

I want to say this with all the compassion I can muster:

๐Ÿ’Š If you canโ€™t afford treatment, there are ๐€๐‹๐–๐€๐˜๐’ steps to take:

* Contact an exotic vet or animal rescue.

* Ask if you can ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐š๐ง๐ข๐ฆ๐š๐ฅ so they can get treatment.

Reach out to your community, vet financing options, or emergency loan services.

This isn't about blame or judgment. It's about doing whatโ€™s ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐š๐ง๐ข๐ฆ๐š๐ฅ.

If you truly love them, you will find a way, even if that means letting them go into the care of someone who can help.

๐Ÿ’ญ Why Ask for Advice If You Donโ€™t Want to Hear It? ๐Ÿ’ญ

I donโ€™t say this to be unkind. I say it because today left me with a heavy heart.

When you come to someone asking for help, ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐œ๐ข๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐š๐›๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐š ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐š๐ง๐ข๐ฆ๐š๐ฅ, you have to be ready to hear the truth, even if it's not what you want to hear.

I donโ€™t give advice to judge.
I give advice because ๐ˆ ๐œ๐š๐ซ๐ž.
Because the animal in question ๐œ๐š๐งโ€™๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐š๐ค ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ฆ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฌ.
Because sometimes the ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ข๐ฌ ๐š๐ฅ๐ฌ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ก๐š๐ซ๐๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ .

So when someone lashes out and blocks you, because Iโ€™ve suggested surrendering a pet thatโ€™s suffering, or seeking vet care they say they canโ€™t afford, itโ€™s not just frustrating.

Because in the middle of all that emotion is a ๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ž ๐ฅ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ž ๐ก๐š๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐›๐š๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž.

Please, if youโ€™re going to ask for advice, be willing to really listen. Even when itโ€™s hard. Especially then.

Because this isnโ€™t about you.

This bunny is in clear distress. Paralyzed, unable to move properly or clean herself,she is living in discomfort, confusion, and likely pain.

It may come from love, but love, without action, can still allow suffering.

If you cannot provide the care she desperately needs, then the most compassionate choice is to surrender the bunny to someone who can.

Our beloved bunny Twinkles has been fighting a difficult battle. She was diagnosed with a ๐’“๐’‰๐’Š๐’๐’๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’‰ a hard, stone like mass deep in her nasal passage. Lab analysis revealed it contained Proteus spp. and Pasteurella two aggressive bacteria responsible for recurrent ๐’‘๐’๐’†๐’–๐’Ž๐’๐’๐’Š๐’‚ and severe airway inflammation.

She underwent delicate surgery to remove the rhinolith, but shortly after, she suffered a major setback and was diagnosed with ๐’ˆ๐’‚๐’”๐’•๐’“๐’๐’Š๐’๐’•๐’†๐’”๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’‚๐’ (๐‘ฎ๐‘ฐ) ๐’”๐’•๐’‚๐’”๐’Š๐’” ๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐’‚๐’ƒ๐’…๐’๐’Ž๐’Š๐’๐’‚๐’ ๐’ƒ๐’๐’๐’‚๐’•, a life-threatening emergency in rabbits.

She is currently in intensive care at Exotic Vet Century City, receiving oxygen support, IV fluids, medications, and round-the-clock monitoring.

Her veterinary bills have now reached R36,951, and although insurance has covered R13,000, I still have a way to go to save my baby.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Roxy from Cape Animal Dentistry Service in Kenilworth, Cape Town, for performing a high-risk rhinotomy on my bunny, Twinks. This was a serious and delicate procedure, but one we hoped would finally bring her some relief and a better quality of life.

Twinks has been fighting a long and difficult battle with recurrent ๐ฉ๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐š ๐ฉ๐ง๐ž๐ฎ๐ฆ๐จ๐ง๐ข๐š, marked by severe nasal blockages and chronic discharge. Despite multiple rounds of antibiotics and months of nebulising therapy, the infection would always returnโ€”often stronger and more resistant than before.

A recent CT scan revealed the presence of a ๐ซ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ก (a calcified mass in the nasal passage), which we suspected was harbouring the Pasteurella and preventing treatments from reaching the infection site effectively. While there were no guarantees, we made the tough decision to proceed with a ๐ซ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐จ๐ญ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฒ to remove the rhinolith, hoping this would give Twinks a real chance at recovery. At the very least, we knew that removing the nasal obstruction would help her breathe more comfortably.

The rhinolith has been sent for histopathology and culture testing, which we hope will provide more insight into the cause and microbial makeup of the infection โ€” helping us prevent future flare-ups and manage her condition long-term.

Willowlicious is a small animal( Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Chinchillas and Hamster) pet store based in Cape town. The company was started due to the demand for healthy chew toys and treats for small animals.

All of our products are naturally sourced, pesticide and preservative free which provide for a healthy chew toy or treat for your critter. The willow products are seasonal and will be available during the willow season ( Nov to March) or whilst stocks last. All other products will be available year round

I was originally running this as a small offline business for friends of the bunny community, until the requests for a wider range started coming in fast. The massive demand was coming from my own personal bunnies ๐Ÿ“ท
