Our Animal Protection Laws are pathetic!!🤬
‼️ TWO AND A HALF YEARS IT TOOK ‼️
We stood in court for the final time on Thursday.
The accused, an “elderly” man, finally admitted guilt.
This case was never about age. It was about seven Pitbulls who were starved, chained, and denied the most basic rights to sustenance and dignity. Eight kilograms of food in three weeks between seven dogs. “They must be lean,” he said. They were registered. They were valuable. So they must endure.
The chains wore their necks raw. The hunger hollowed them out.
ODIN did not stand back.
We pursued justice for two and a half years.
On Thursday, the matter reached its conclusion.
In consultation with the relevant authorities and in line with the Criminal Procedure Act, the accused entered into a formal plea of guilty. Sentencing has been deferred for the preparation of a Social Worker’s Pre-Sentence Report, and the court has ruled that he will serve community service hours under supervision at the Local Municipal Animal Pound.
He will work.
He will feed.
He will provide water.
He will do for those animals what he denied his own.
Would we have preferred a harsher sentence? Yes.
But justice sometimes comes in quieter forms:
He will be forced to confront what he did. Every day. With his own hands.
This is the reality of animal cruelty cases in South Africa.
It is slow. It is exhausting. It is painful.
But we do not give up.
Keep your eyes open.
Do not look away.
Call us. Call the Garden Route SPCA.
We are here. We will come. We will fight.
