Impress My Daddy came for another check up this morning. She seems to be on the mend, but we will keep on monitoring her very closely.

I forgot to share that Impress My Daddy was expecting a foal, but sadly she lost her little c**t on Monday morning 😢. While she is eating well and seems outwardly calm, we know that horses, too, carry emotions deep in their hearts and minds. Trauma and fear may well have contributed to her miscarriage. She has endured so much in such a short time and our hearts break to think what she went through. But because CHPA and our team are here for her, makes it just a little bit better.

Folks, please say YES to standing behind CHPA so we can continue to help horses like Impress My Daddy: www.carthorse.org.za/donate

💔 Meet Impress My Daddy. While peacefully grazing in a field in Kalksteenfontein, she was tragically caught in the crossfire of a gang shooting. We believe a bullet ricocheted off the pavement before striking her hind quarter. 🐴💔 This is yet another reminder of how innocent lives, animal and human, are affected by violence in our communities😢

Inspector Jolize met the owner on the outskirts of Kalksteenfontein as it is too dangerous to go into the area and trucked her to our clinic in Epping where Dr Lauren from Cape Vet Equine Practice was waiting for her. X-rays were taken and we found where the shrapnel was sitting. She was very lucky that the shrapnel did not shatter her femur and did not enter any other vital organs. Dr Lauren is inclined to leave it in, unless it is going to cause other problems. Impress My Daddy will be inspected again on Thursday.

Folks, we can only be there for horses like Impress My Daddy with your support, please donate today: www.carthorse.org.za/donate

🌟 Training the next generation 🌟

At CHPA, we believe in the power of education and skills development. Earlier this year, in May, Haroon Ismail and Onwabile Ndzeku began their farrier apprenticeship with us under the expert guidance of our head farrier, Ashley Deelman.

Recently, they completed their trimming practical at Glen-Graze Rescue Sanctuary, and we’re proud to share that both achieved an outstanding 100%! 🎉👏

Here’s to shaping skilled, compassionate farriers who will make a difference for horses in need. ❤️ 👏👏👏

Folks, just another reason to support CHPA. Please donate today at www.carthorse.org.za/donate

Back in 2018, one of our Inspectors found Ice in a heartbreaking state, emaciated and standing alone in his stable 🥲. He was immediately confiscated and brought to our Recovery & Rehabilitation Centre, where he began his healing journey.

In 2021, we celebrated when Ice was adopted, but sadly, due to his temperament, he was returned. Then in 2023, he found what we thought was his forever home, a beautiful place with space, grazing, and love. Sadly, a few months ago, Ice came back to us once again.

It’s always tough to see a horse return after experiencing freedom and slowly learning to trust a family again 💔. But for Ice, safety is what matters most. He is back at our R&R, reunited with his old herd, meeting some new friends, and slowly finding his rhythm again.

Ice’s story is a reminder of why our work never stops, every horse deserves patience, safety, and a second chance. 🐴💙

Another successful Animal Welfare Legislation training program successfully completed. It was a five-day comprehensive program covering all Acts, Regulations and application thereof.

Well done to our Equine Welfare trainees and those from Greyton Animal Welfare Society, Animal Welfare Society of SA Hermanus and Phillipi on your achievement.

On my goodness, what a lovely, lovely morning I had with Ann-Gail and Sue who came to visit CHPA. They arrived at around 09h30 and left almost two hours later. It was such a busy morning and so much to see and share about what CHPA does. They both could also see firsthand where their donations are going too.

Do you want to come and visit us at our clinic in Epping, meet the horses, meet the carties and our staff? Then please email me at [email protected] and make an appointment today. I would really love to show you around.

Folks, do you remember Prosper, the sweet boy who injured his eye in his stable? Sadly, despite all our efforts, his eye just wasn’t healing. Our vets made the difficult but necessary decision to remove it, ensuring he can now live a pain-free and comfortable life. Dr Lee from Cape Vet Equine Practice came to our Epping clinic and did the procedure. After his operation, we trucked him to our Recovery and Rehabilitation where he is now retired as we do not believe a cart horse should be working with just one eye!

Our vet bills are one of our biggest expenses and we would hate to be in a position where horses like Prosper could not be helped. Please support CHPA in being able to give them the best care possible when they need it the most. Please go too www.carthorse.org.za/donate
