Multigenerational Labradoodle puppies tend to be more expensive for several reasons:
1. Predictable Traits: Multigenerational breeding refers to breeding Labradoodles that are produced by mating two Labradoodles rather than crossing a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle (the original cross). This selective breeding helps to establish more predictable traits in terms of temperament, coat type (often curly or wavy), size, and shedding characteristics. Buyers are willing to pay a premium for the consistency and quality of these traits.
2. Reputation and Experience: Breeding multigenerational Labradoodles often requires more experienced breeders who are focused on health, temperament, and breed standards. These breeders may invest more time, effort, and expertise into their breeding programs, which can increase the cost of the puppies.
3. Health Testing: Responsible breeders typically perform extensive health testing on multigenerational Labradoodles to minimize the risk of hereditary conditions. The cost of these tests, along with the additional care needed for multigenerational breeding programs, adds to the overall price.
4. Demand: There is a higher demand for multigenerational Labradoodles because they are seen as more predictable and often hypoallergenic, which appeals to families with allergies. The demand drives up the price.
5. Breeding Costs: Due to the more controlled breeding process, there are often higher costs involved in raising multigenerational Labradoodles, such as specialized care for the dogs, health screenings, and more extensive time spent on raising the puppies.
Altogether, these factors contribute to the higher cost of multigenerational Labradoodles compared to first-generation crosses.
That and the few breeders that there are in South Africa bought there labradoodles from overseas. That cost alone is around 100k
Hopefully that gives you the insight into why they cost what they do.
