To all of our new and old supporters:
There are NO words for our gratitude. We have been so incredibly stressed about funding.... for food, sterilisations and the replacement of our dead rescue truck. Today, you made me cry. I saw some of your donations and while I desperately want to email or call you to thank you, there are no email addresses attached to the donations. Please let us know if they were from you and for any who donate in the future, please remember to put your email address in the Reference line.
While we still need to raise R68,000 for our truck, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! You give us hope. Our work continues!!!

I have always been of the mindset to buy only what I need, not what I want. This is how I've been able to save and spend my money on what I love the most: animals. Every birthday, I've asked my friends and family to donate money to my favourite animal rescue instead of buying me gifts. I truly don't need more 'stuff'. I already have everything I need—but there are so many vulnerable animals out there who don't.
Why not consider doing the same, and having your loved ones donate to LEAPS?
Every single rand goes directly toward critical work on the ground, including:
🐕 Mass sterilization drives to prevent the cycle of neglect and suffering.
🩺 Vital medical care for township animals who have no other voice.
🍲 Food and outreach for communities that love their pets but lack resources.
Knowing that my birthdays helped keep a dog healthy, safe, and fed has been the best present I could ever ask for.

No wheels = No rescues. Help LEAPS stay on the road! 🚐🐾

Did you know that LEAPS is currently the only animal rescue organization providing consistent, on-the-ground support to animals in the townships in Lamberts Bay and Elands Bay?

In these remote West Coast communities, we are the only lifeline for animals in need. But to do this work, we have to get there.

Why transport is everything to us:
📍 We travel hundreds of kilometers every month to reach animals that have no other access to veterinary care, including surrounding areas
🩹 When an animal is sick or injured, our bakkie is their only ambulance to a clinic.
✂️ We can't reduce the number of homeless animals without being able to transport them safely to and from our mass sterilisation clinics.
🍲 We bring life-saving nutrition to animals whose owners simply cannot reach a shop.

Our current rescue bakkie has worked tirelessly and has officially clocked over 325,000 km. It is non-functional, and the high maintenance costs are taking money away from the animals.

We are urgently raising funds to secure a reliable, used vehicle with a secure, ventilated canopy. Every Rand brings us closer to a safe ride for the dogs and cats of the West Coast.

W4ow what an interesting read 💥💥💥💥

Most people are unaware of how much modern medicine owes to rats.🐀

Insulin treatment, cancer therapies, and vaccines that were confirmed safe before reaching a human arm were all developed in part through rat research.

Our understanding of how memory works, how fear is processed, how addiction develops, and how the nervous system repairs itself was built substantially on rat biology.

Rats also work in the field. APOPO's HeroRATs in Mozambique and Tanzania are trained to detect landmines and diagnose tuberculosis. Their sense of smell is precise enough to identify TB in sputum samples faster than a laboratory technician. They are also light enough not to trigger a landmine.

We want to be straightforward about disease transmission. Various zoonotic diseases associated with rodents are genuine public health concerns. Rats can carry and transmit disease, and that is a real reason to manage their populations carefully and responsibly. It is not a reason to cause them unnecessary suffering.

𝙎𝙚𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚?

1️⃣Take a screenshot with all the details showing (click on "see more").
2️⃣Then report to the group admins if it appears in a group.
3️⃣Then report it to Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp (after reporting to admins)

If Facebook says it doesn't go against community standards, then choose the review option and say that "Facebook doesn't understand the intent" of the post.

4️⃣Hiding the price or calling it “rehoming” or “adoption” when it is not, is deliberate deception under the Consumer Protection Act Sections 29 and 41. Report them to the National Consumers Commission (NCC).

5️⃣Report those who request cash, especially to SARS.

6️⃣Report them to us at "Submit Report" (top right of our website), with the screenshot and any other information you may have. Our first focus is on 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦 (anyone who allows an animal to create offspring, even your neighbour) as well as 𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗦 of any pets.

If the admins refuse to remove such posts on social media, report them to us with as much detail as possible. You can also report “free to good home” ads to us.

📝𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘 While current legislation does not yet prohibit it, your reports help us map out the scale of the problem and build a database that will ensure these operators are the first to be visited once new laws are enacted.
