๐Ÿ† Meet EMMY

A few days ago we posted about a cat that had returned to us after being privately rehomed, and then surrendered to a shelter. This is Emmy. And she finally has had some good luck โ€” her original foster human was available to take her in and care for her! She is currently recovering and decompressing from the trauma she has experienced, and we are starting to look for a new home and family for this special girl.

Amazingly, she is already doing so well back in foster care, where she is lapping up the love and attention. She is eating well and picking up weight. Emmy is the sweetest cat with the loveliest nature, napping and cuddling with her human. Her fun and quirky nature is already starting to show itself as she becomes more comfortable, and she is playing very cutely.

PS - Remember, your adoption agency should always be your first port of call if your circumstances change. Please take a look at our previous post for more information.

For more information or to arrange to meet EMMY please complete our adoption application form https://forms.gle/BGMAbhsBo3Trhcdw6. All the information you need is in the form and we will call you to discuss further once we have all your details ๐Ÿ˜Š.

๐Ÿšจ IMPORTANT: When life changes, always contact your cat's original rescue organisation first!

Even though we have shut down our operations at Luna Cat Rescue, we recently took in Emmy, one of our former fosterlings, after she was surrendered to animal welfare after being privately rehomed by her adopter. This trauma and stress could have been avoided if the original adopters had just reached out to us last year when they wanted to rehome her.

Swipe through to learn the proper steps to take when you can no longer keep your adopted cat.

Weโ€™re currently giving Emmy a lot of love and care to help her recover, and weโ€™ll post her adoption post to find her a new family and home in a few days.

Sunny is back home โค๏ธ

But it has taken us a few days to process the heartbreaking reality that, despite everyoneโ€™s best efforts, there was no way to surgically fix her leaking and repeated UTIs ๐Ÿ˜”

All the tests we did on her indicated that a surgical repair should be possible, but as is sometimes the case, imaging can only reveal so much. A full understanding comes when seeing the anatomy firsthand. During the procedure, Dr. Brandan Janssens discovered that Sunny was born without a urethra โ€” her bladder empties directly into her va**na. Because of this extremely rare congenital condition, surgical reconstruction was simply not an option.

While this news is very disappointing, we find comfort in knowing that we explored every possible option for her. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Brandan and his team at Vetscape for their expertise, care, and dedication to helping Sunny.

For now, our focus is on keeping her happy, comfortable, and as healthy as possible. Sunny will stay in her loving foster home, where she is adored by her human and feline family. She has thrived there over the past year, and we know this is where she belongs.

To everyone who donated, shared her story, sent well wishes, and supported her โ€” thank you. We wish we had better news, but please know that Sunny is happy, safe, loved, and being given the best life possible.

With gratitude,
The Luna Cat Rescue Team

SUNNY'S GETTING SURGERY! ๐Ÿ’•

It's a big week for Sunny next week. After her tests and procedures in early January, Dr Brandan Janssens at Vetscape Animal Hospital has enough information to operate on Monday and repair her very unusual urinary tract. The urinary tract of a cat is very delicate and fiddly, and he wanted to be absolutely sure this was her best chance at a long and happy life. The tests in January show that it is.

Meanwhile, since her last hospital stay, Sunny has had a relaxing three weeks in her foster home, playing with her foster siblings. She is a strong and healthy girl, with a big personality, and we are so happy she is getting this chance at a long life.

Thank you again to everyone who donated to make this happen, and we'll keep you posted on her surgery and her recovery.

Update on SUNNY ๐ŸŒž

Our girl SUNNY is resting up at home after a very eventful few days. She underwent more tests and procedures than we anticipated this week to conclusively identify what is causing her leaking and repeated urinary tract infections. But we have an answer! We're now waiting for confirmation of the outcome from a radiology consult, and then Sunny will finally have the operation she needs. Meanwhile, she's come home to decompress, recharge, and relax with her foster siblings (and a very relieved foster human) until we get a date for her op.

Thank you again to everyone who donated to make this happen, and we'll keep you posted on her surgery and her recovery.

๐Ÿค• IT'S SUNNY'S BIG SURGERY ON MONDAY!

It's a big day for Sunny on Monday, when she has life-saving surgery that will hopefully solve her leaking and repeated urinary tract infections for good. Thank you to everyone who has already donated to her surgery. We really appreciate it.

We still need a few more donations to reach the R6,000 we'd like to fundraise for her surgery. You can read the update on Sunny, her condition, and her treatment in the previous posts.

And here's a cute retrospective of Sunny as a kitten โ€” what a road we have walked with this adorable little girl.

Here are the details to donate to Sunny's surgery. Any amount will help and be gratefully received.

๐Ÿฅ PLEASE DONATE TO SUNNY'S SURGERY

Thank you to everyone who has already donated to Sunny's surgery. We really appreciate it.

We still need donations to reach the R6,000 we'd like to fundraise for her surgery in January. You can read the update on Sunny, her condition, and her treatment in the previous post, but the summary is, she needs specialist surgery to prevent the ongoing urinary tract infections, which are likely to eventually damage her kidneys and be fatal.

And here's a cute retrospective of Sunny and some of the friends she's made in foster care over the last year.

Here are the details to donate to Sunny's surgery. Any amount will help and be gratefully received.

SUNNY UPDATE ๐Ÿ’•

Remember our pretty dilute calico fosterling, Sunny? We were investigating her suspected ectopic ureter which caused her to leak urine and suffer from ongoing urinary tract infections. She's been living her best life in foster care and behind the scenes, as she gets older and bigger, we have been exploring what can be done for her long-term. Even though she is happy and healthy now, ultimately the recurring bladder infections could travel to her kidneys and be fatal.

So far, we have ruled out an ectopic ureter, a congenital malformation of the ureters between the kidneys and bladder. We have also narrowed down the issue to an unspecified malformation between the bladder and the outside world.

The next step is a specialist procedure where Sunny's lower urinary tract will be scoped, and during the exploration, the deviation will be surgically repaired. At the start of January, Dr Brandan Janssens at Vetscape will operate on her to do this. Because there is still some exploration involved, we don't know what we don't know, but we are hopeful that if everything goes according to plan, this will prevent future infections, stop the leaking, and allow Sunny to have a normal life.

Our funds are low though, because we haven't been fundraising since we announced that we are closing Luna Cat Rescue this year. Each of the core team is contributing to the operation in their personal capacity, which will cover the bulk of the cost โ€” she's been with us for so long and is our last fosterling so we wanted to give her this chance to have a long, comfortable, regular life. But we also want to ask our community for contributions to R6,000 of the cost of the operation.

We know it is a tough time of year to be asking for money. Any amount will help and be gratefully received. If you are able, this is how you can donate to Sunny's operation:

TOBY UPDATE: Toby in his new home ๐Ÿ’•

What a journey our boy Toby has had, and he has stayed the same, sweet, cuddly, chilled, friendly guy the entire way through his surgeries and cage rest. So we are so happy that he has settled beautifully into his forever home, where he is being thoroughly spoilt and loved.

He's making friends with the resident tabby cats, exploring the house to find all the best sunbeam positions, and training his humans to do his bidding. And he has plenty of his beloved spring toys to play with.

He's recovered so well from his patella luxation surgery, and now that he is free range again, is gaining strength and mobility very quickly. He's a smart guy, and never goes beyond his limits as he gets stronger and more confident. He also takes plenty of naps in between to boost his recovery and gains!

We're so happy to see him so happy in the perfect home for him. Thank you again to everyone who has followed his story, donated to his surgery and care, and especially to Dr Frans and team Animal Hospital for the specialist surgery, and Nicole Barr and Animal Physiotherapy for his rehab.

๐Ÿ’ž ADOPTED ๐Ÿ’ž

Meet LUIGI โค๏ธ

Although nothing has changed with our plans to close down this year, this little guy fell into our laps recently, and we decided to give him the best chance to find his perfect forever home.

Luigi's story:

Steffi is training at Penzance Veterinary Clinic as a veterinary nurse. One afternoon little Luigi arrived at the practice, weighing only 360g. He was full of fleas, had Feline Herpes Virus (also called snuffles), which was left untreated and had unfortunately caused one of his eyes to rupture. The poor guy was also malnourished and very dehydrated. And Steffi simply couldnโ€™t say no ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Steffi nursed him back to health and got him up to 560g which is when he was able to have enucleation surgery to remove the eye. Luigi is a feisty little fighter though, and as soon as he started getting proper care, he bounced back and took everything in his stride.

So much so, he soon needed to be with other cats to start using up some of his energy, and learn manners and the ways of the cats to avoid single kitten syndrome. He moved to Vanessa, who has resident cats who are very experienced at training fosterlings, and Luigi is living his best life. He weighs more than a kilogram, and has an endless supply of cats to tackle and chase. He has been a lovely companion and distraction for Toby, our orthopedic surgery patient who is almost finished his recovery.

Luigi has recovered completely from his eye surgery, and doesn't seem to notice the loss of one eye at all. It certainly hasn't slowed him down!

Now it's time to find this little fighter his perfect forever home. Luigi is 9 weeks old.

For more information or to arrange to meet LUIGI please complete our adoption application form https://forms.gle/5XnJs2fZ4ewUHiFE7. All the information you need is in the form and we will call you to discuss further once we have all your details ๐Ÿ˜Š.

๐Ÿ˜ป Please note we always put the needs of our cats and kittens first and all applications will be viewed with this in mind ๐Ÿ˜ป
