Several pet food brands, including Bobtail, Catmor, Canine Cuisine, Optimizor, Ultra Pet, and Superwoof, have been recalled in South Africa due to elevated levels of deoxynivalenol (DON). The recall affects specific batches of dry pet food manufactured between May 26-29, June 4-5, and June 17, 2025, due to high levels of this mycotoxin in the maize used for production.

Bobtail: Specific batches of dry pet food.
Catmor: Specific batches of dry pet food.
Canine Cuisine: Specific batches of dry pet food.
Optimizor:
Adult Beef & Rice 25kg (manufactured May 26 & 29, 2025).
Puppy All Breeds 20kg (manufactured May 26 & 29, 2025).
Ultra Pet: Specific batches of dry pet food.
Superwoof:
Large Dog Dry Beef & Rice 8kg (manufactured May 29, 2025).
Large Dog Dry Turkey & Rice 8kg (manufactured May 29, 2025).
Large Dog Dry Turkey & Rice 20kg (manufactured May 29, 2025).
Small Dog Dry Turkey & Rice 3kg (manufactured May 28, 2025).
What to do
Check your pet food: Check the production dates on any of the affected brands and products to see if your food is on the list.
Do not feed to your pet: If you have any of the recalled products, do not feed them to your pet.
Contact the manufacturer: The manufacturer, RCL Foods, has advised customers to contact them with any questions or concerns.
Dispose of properly: The FDA advises to dispose of the recalled products in a way that prevents pets and wildlife from accessing them.
