All the shows are listed in the event calendar on the KUSA.co.za website. There are shows around the country on almost every weekend. Just check the calender to see when there are shows in your area.

We have a litter of Skye puppies, five in total, three boys and two girls. Born 30 Sept 2021.

Exports two booked already. And Darzet and Ailsabute will keep one or two which means one or two pups are available.

Parents are the first two Junior Merit Winners in the Breed ever in South Africa.

We could have puppies on the way. We should know next week to 10 days. Will be born under kennel Darzet. Although the bitch was with me for breeding. She will go home after the pregnancy is confirmed. Enquiries welcome although the litter is half booked depending on what we get. I.e. boys vs girls and drop vs prick.

I am no longer breeding Springers and I haven't for a long time. It doesn't mean they are not still in my heart and my home. I still have one springer of 13 years. She's my old lady. And the last of my line here at home. Most of the springers I bred in four litters over five years went to pet homes. Half of the first litter were ZA Ch. Talley, Abbey and Gunna. Only one puppy in all those years was surrendered back due to his elderly humans having to move into care but thankfully that old guy Benbecula, brother of the first litter so Talley's brother, smoothly relocated to another family in my springer family and he has been happily rehomed with a nephew for the last few years. I've been focusing on Skyes for the last few years as this is an endangered breed.

If you need references to reputable springer breeders, call me. I usually give references for three that I know are still breeding.

I will adjust the page title only when my last lovely girl passes. Nevertheless I continue to answer calls on Springers, help people who have been scammed, and advise on how to know your home is a suitable springer home.

It's a gorgeous breed especially for a young and active family. Or active elderly people who clock in a good few kms a day. But it's not for workaholics. Or for people who want the dog to stay in the yard. So don't get the wrong breed! Right? Get the right breed for your lifestyle.

Extreme Heat Dangers for Dogs

Dog owners need to be aware of the dangers of this extreme heat we are currently experiencing across South Africa.
Dogs can get dangerously dehydrated causing elevated chloride and sodium levels. This can lead to seizures. The extremely high UV ray's from being in the sun outdoors for many hours can also cause cancers. Make sure dogs that live outdoors have a cool dark place to go to in the extreme hot weather. Traditional plastic kennels are like ovens with very little air circulation so are not useful. If you cant keep your dog indoors in a cool place with fans and air circulation they should have a ventilated brick shelter with good air circulation to take refuge in during the day. And to take shelter at night during electric storms. And not with an IBR roof as this becomes like an oven too. Tiled or thatched roof is best. Many homes have a lapa but if you dont please make sure you have another cool place for them to go.
If you've left your dogs at home outside the house with a pet service visiting to feed them and check on them it is even more important that the dogs can find refuge from the heat as there is no one to see if they become distressed.

Please do not get scammed by websites like this. Make sure you are dealing with a real person, with real dogs that are known and seen at dog shows. Not a broker type site and definitely don't support backyard breeders.

Honest show breeders advertise their litters only on their own website or page, never in classifieds, their dogs are regularly at Kusa events around the country to be viewed by the public.
If in doubt use the Kusa breeder listing to find a breeder of your chosen breed.

Get to know the breeder long before the litter is planned and be sure that you understand the breeders's contract or terms.

Many people have lost thousands of rands with no hope of recovering it.

SO JUST HOW LONG DO YOUR PET’S SHOTS LAST?

Definitely longer than a year!

According to the top pet immunologist (aka vaccine expert) in the world, Dr. Ronald Schultz, Ph.D. – “ Annual revaccination provides no benefit and may increase the risk for adverse reactions.”

What the heck are adverse reactions (or side effects)?

Well according to the other rock star pet immunologist Dr. Jean Dodds:

“Side effects from dog vaccinations can occur anywhere from instantly up to several weeks or months later. Vaccines can even cause susceptibility to chronic diseases that appear much later in a dog’s life (Dodd, 2001).

Severe and fatal adverse reactions include:

•Susceptibility to infections.

•Neurological disorders and encephalitis.

•Aberrant behavior, including unprovoked aggression.

•Vaccines are linked to seizures. Distemper, parvovirus, rabies and, presumably, other vaccines have been linked with poly neuropathy, a nerve disease that involves inflammation of several nerves. (Dodds,2001)”

SO HOW LONG EXACTLY DOES YOUR PET’S VACCINE LAST?

According to the recommendations of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), (basically the dudes who set the standards for the vets): “Among healthy dogs, all commercially available [core] vaccines are expected to induce a sustained protective immune response lasting at least 5 yr. thereafter”

Here’s the breakdown of the core vaccines from Dr. Ronald Schultz:

Minimum Duration of Immunity for Canine Vaccines:

Distemper- 7 years by challenge
Parvovirus – 7 years by challenge
Adenovirus – 7 years by challenge
Canine rabies – 3 years by challenge

The moral of the story here, if you have no idea when your pet is due or has been vaccinated, then just run a titer test and this will confirm if you are due, rather than over-vaccinate your poor pet, setting the stage for future problems!

What’s a titer test?

A titer test (pronounced tight-errr) is a laboratory or in-house veterinary test measuring the existence and level of antibodies (necessary to fight off disease) in your pet’s blood. Basically, it’s a test that will tell you whether or not you actually need to vaccinate your pet.

It’s also super useful when making a decision about vaccinating a pet with an unknown vaccination history, or for determining if pets have received immunity from vaccination.

Vaccinating your pet is super important so don’t lose the overall message here: VACCINATE, JUST DON’T OVER-VACCINATE!

According to Dr. Dodds:

“Vaccines have achieved many important benefits for companion animals, and has saved more animals' lives than any other medical advance.”
