Another milestone delivered!💉

Rynfield Veterinary Hospital has received their Dollvet FMD vaccines through the Buffalo Analytics system, supporting responsible vaccine access, veterinary oversight and digital traceability.

Dr Pieter Engelbrecht, the veterinarian at Rynfield Veterinary Hospital, shared his excitement and appreciation for the successful delivery, marking another positive step forward in supporting farmers and strengthening South Africa’s FMD response.

𝗔 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗼: 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗶’𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆

Little Impi, our brave Miniature Pinscher boy, has certainly been through a lot!

After spending several days in hospital fighting Parvovirus, Impi was finally well enough to return home. But with his appetite back in full force, his first meal at home came with an unfortunate surprise... he devoured a piece of cloth, which became lodged in his intestines.

Dr Piet came to the rescue, and Impi required a challenging emergency operation to remove the foreign body. Because he had just recovered from Parvo and was still very weak and depleted, maintaining his body temperature under anaesthesia was a significant concern.

Thankfully, our hospital is equipped to help patients just like Impi. ❤️

We recently imported specialised equipment that warms the inhaled air during general anaesthesia, helping us maintain a patient's body temperature. This is used alongside a specialised warming pad, while our veterinary team continuously monitors temperature and other vital parameters throughout anaesthesia.

If a patient's temperature begins to drop, we also have a Bair Hugger, which gently circulates warmed air over the patient to provide additional support.

We are delighted to report that Impi recovered beautifully from his surgery and is bouncing back to his usual self.

A true little hero. ❤️

I honestly don’t think we could ever thank you enough for the care, kindness and dedication you showed Molly and her little babies this morning (and over this past week). Having a team like yours beside us has made all the difference.

From the moment we arrived, we felt completely safe knowing that she was in your hands. You all handled everything with such incredible skill, patience and compassion. Not only caring for Molly and making sure she was okay, but treating each tiny little pup as if they were your own.

Today, watching those little faces arrive safely into the world was incredibly emotional, and we are so grateful that you were there to help bring them into it.🥹🩷

Molly is settled, her babies are feeding, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Thank you for being such an incredible team. You truly went above and beyond, and we will never forget the kindness you showed us today.

𝗣𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗮’𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗿 𝗣𝘂𝗽𝗶𝗹𝘀

Sometimes a routine veterinary examination reveals something quite remarkable!

Meet Pippa, who recently visited Rynfield Veterinary Hospital and caught our team’s attention with the fascinating appearance of her eyes.

𝗦𝗼, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁?

Pippa has persistent pupillary membranes (PPMs), which are delicate strands of tissue that are remnants of the blood vessels that supplied the eye while it was developing before birth.

Normally, these vessels disappear as the eye matures. However, in some dogs, portions of these membranes remain and can be seen crossing the pupil, creating the unusual web-like appearance visible in Pippa’s eyes.

The good news is that PPMs are often an incidental finding, meaning they are discovered by chance and don't necessarily cause discomfort or problems for the dog. 💙

Pippa’s unique eyes gave us an opportunity to share a little bit of veterinary science with you! 🔬

𝗗𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗥𝘆𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹: 𝗟𝗶𝗹𝘆’𝘀 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗨𝗽

Sweet Lily recently visited Rynfield Veterinary Hospital for a professional dental scale and polish, and what a difference it made!

Just like us, our pets can develop plaque and tartar on their teeth. If left untreated, this build-up can contribute to sore gums, bad breath and dental disease.

Lily’s dental was performed under anaesthesia, allowing our veterinary team to thoroughly clean and examine her teeth. Safely removing the built-up tartar and leaving her teeth looking fresh and clean again!

Regular dental care is an important part of keeping your pet comfortable, healthy and smiling for years to come. If you’ve noticed bad breath, yellow/brown tartar, red gums or difficulty chewing, it might be time to have your pet’s teeth checked.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗣𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵: 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗱𝘆

Meet Freddy, a brave little Shih Tzu who was involved in a motor vehicle accident. It can happen in an instant, and unfortunately, Freddy found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He was rushed to Rynfield Veterinary Hospital suffering from multiple injuries and shock.

Freddy was immediately admitted, where our dedicated team of veterinarians and nurses worked tirelessly to stabilise him. Dr Abigail carefully repaired his extensive degloving skin injuries, and once he was strong enough for surgery, Dr Piet successfully plated his fractured tibia.

Day by day, Freddy has continued to grow stronger. His recovery has been made even smoother thanks to the incredible commitment and love of his devoted owners, who have followed every step of his aftercare.

𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

Vaccinations are one of the most important steps you can take to keep your pet healthy. They provide essential protection against serious and potentially life-threatening diseases.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄?
For puppies, three core vaccinations are needed to build strong immunity, especially against parvovirus.

The same applies to kittens. They require a course of core vaccinations to protect them against feline panleukopenia, a highly contagious disease that can be fatal in up to 50% of cases. We also routinely vaccinate cats against Feline Leukaemia Virus, a contagious virus that can suppress the immune system and increase the risk of cancer.

𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱:
Did you know that most of your vaccination fees at Rynfield Vet includes a clinical examination and health assessment by our Veterinarians. They will also discuss health issues and address any concerns that you may have regarding your pet's well-being.

We give the best combination of antigens available to ensure that your pet gets the best disease prevention that is currently available in South Africa. Our Animal Health Technicians are also there to assist with the vaccination or, if needed, deworming, nail clipping, or other routine procedures that your four-legged children may need.

Little Bubbles, the Aussie pup, and Stormi the kitten, came recently for their health assessments and vaccinations. They were champions!!!
