Quarantine Zone for Foot and Mouth Disease. Thank you Tor Rohde

Horses, donkeys, and other equids are NOT susceptible to Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and cannot contract the virus. However, they CAN act as mechanical carriers, transmitting the virus on their hair, skin, or hooves after contact with infected, cloven-hoofed livestock.

➡️ Avoid contact between horses and infected livestock or wildlife.
➡️ Clean vehicles and equipment thoroughly if transporting horses from high-risk areas.
➡️ Ensure that any hay or straw imported from an FMD-affected area is restricted.

➡️ If a horse shows signs of blistering around the mouth or hooves, it is generally suspected to be vesicular stomatitis, but it should still be reported to a veterinarian to rule out other, more serious diseases.
