Equidontia South Africa

Equidontia South Africa I love what I do. I have a passion for the general wellbeing of equines.

My mission is to provide professional equine dental services, to share knowledge about equine wellbeing and the necessity for adequate dental care, and to increase the credibility and standard of equine dentistry as a profession. Since embarking on a career as a farrier in 1990, I noted that dental care was overlooked and was only addressed when problems arose. This led me to understand the import

ance of routine dental maintenance, and I subsequently pursued a career as a "horse dentist". Understanding equine psychology and behaviour has been integral to my ability to perform optimally in my profession, and a component of equine care which I am passionate about. It has empowered me to work effectively in challenging situations in a mutually beneficial way with the horse. I have had the privilege to provide dental services to a Cape Buffalo, Black Rhino, alpacas and a guinea pig, and I relish opportunities to employ my professional expertise and thirst for dental knowledge to animals beyond equines. One of the highlights of my professional career has been working collaboratively with some of the best in the industry. Not only has that served to sharpen our collective skills and hone best practice in equine dentistry, but rewarding friendships have emerged throughout the years.

"This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again.

Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.

This is the crisis we're in: God-light streamed into the world, but men and women everywhere ran for the darkness. They went for the darkness because they were not really interested in pleasing God.

Everyone who makes a practice of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won't come near it, fearing a painful exposure.

But anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the God-work it is."

A useful resource we're sharing more frequently as horse owners and practitioners continue to work together to assess symptoms and prescribe solutions in the presence of "abnormal" behaviours. There is so much we still have to learn about equines, a motivating factor behind my intrigue with dissection and the many secrets to be discovered through post mortem investigation.

Between power outages, water shortages, heartbreaking economic, social and political realities ... and amazing opportunities to participate in unique experiences like this, it's been "wild" in South Africa!

I look forward to being back in New Zealand in exactly one month and will be available for work from Monday 15th August.

Grateful for the privilege to attend and participate in a horse dissection with Becks Nairn in New Zealand weekend before last. Without a shadow of doubt it both jarred and inspired.

I was ...

🐴 jarred by the reminder that there is so much we still do not know about equines individually and collectively and that the correlation between external behaviours and internal abnormalities cannot be ignored.

🐴 inspired by the reality that the pursuit of continuous professional development is essential for every single equine practitioner and attending at least one horse dissection is a very worthwhile investment of personal and professional resources.

‼ BAD DEBTS ‼

We have been forced to change the way we do business due to the significant increase in late payments and bad debts Equidontia South Africa incurred in 2022 and 2023.

Our family makes HUGE relational and financial sacrifices to continue providing equine dental services in a vastly under-serviced province even though we currently live in New Zealand. Aside from the obvious expectation that Donovan's expertise should not be engaged if one does not have the means to pay, constantly chasing payments is a careless waste of our time and resources and is simply not acceptable.

For those who still owe money, please ensure these funds are deposited in full by the end of March 2024. Failing to do so will result in the names of bad debtors being shared with other industry professionals and a formal debt recovery process being initiated.

For those who have always paid for equine dental services promptly, you have our sincere gratitude. It has been an immense blessing!

‼️ SOUTH AFRICA 2024 ‼️

Dates for 2024 are now locked in and we just want to let you know that we'll be doing things a little differently this year.

We're booking and invoicing equine dental appointments in advance and full payment is expected to reflect in our bank account 48 hours prior to the booking date to secure appointments. Arrangements for alternative payment methods must be requested in advance and remain subject to agreement at our discretion.

Booking availablity will be capped and once this cap is reached, customers who have not been allocated an appointment will be placed on a waiting list to accommodate the inevitability that existing bookings become available through cancellation or non-payment, or extra capacity is possible.

The price for a routine maintenance float is R800 per horse. New or overdue horses will be charged at R850. Please advise beforehand whether or not your horse needs sedation.

If you would like to be put on our bookings list, please send a WhatsApp to 072 545 7854.

Warm regards,
Donovan and Pauline
