Easily one of the most stunning vipers I’ve relocated in the wild, this Red Diamond Rattlesnake from San Diego County, California was an absolute tank. Red Diamonds (Crotalus ruber) are a protected species in California and can only be handled when relocating from private property, and was handled with all appropriate permits.

This native Prairie Rattlesnake decided that the shoulder of the road would be a good place for a sunset nap, so I had to take matters into my own hands and move him a little ways off. Snakes often do this to warm up when they come out to hunt at the beginning of the night, as the road retains warmth longer than the air. Keep an eye out and make sure to brake for snakes!

The Broad-headed Snake is a dangerously venomous elapid species endemic to the Sydney Basin in Australia and severely threatened by habitat loss. Thanks to the efforts of their conservation team here, who reintroduced captive bred babies to the wild just this past year, they’ve still got a fighting chance - and I am fortunate to be able to share this stunning baby with you!

Isn’t this a beautiful Bullsnake? 😮‍💨 This pretty lady was just cruising around on the side of a trail, which is where people most often encounter them. Have you seen one around the western U.S.?

One of my favorite snakes I’ve ever found, and one of the rarest - the Cyprus Grass Snake. This endemic subspecies (arguably) is severely endangered on the island of Cyprus and individuals only live in a few streams in the Troodos Mountains. This gorgeous picturata morph snake was close to the max size ever recorded for the species, and was an absolute force of nature.

Excuse the strobe light video from my hazards, but sacrifices had to be made to get this beautiful Kansas Glossy Snake to safety off a busy road! These guys are a nocturnal desert native, and the was the first I’ve ever seen 🤩 have you ever heard of a glossy snake?

The Broad-headed Snake (Hoplocephalus bungaroides) is an endangered and elusive species of highly venomous Australian elapid native to the Sydney Basin, widely regarded as the rarest snake in Sydney. Pictured here are 3 different individuals found with at the end of spring, showcasing their incredible coloration and signature defensive posture with their head flattened and raised off the ground. Despite having a highly toxic cocktail of different venoms, they are small and bites are rare, so there has never been a human death attributed to this species.

The Northern Tree Snake is actually the least common of the 3 species of tree snake that occur in Australia, but I was lucky enough to find this gorgeous adult basking in a patch of sunlight in a forest 🤩 these guys are just as quick through the trees as they are on the ground, and are one of the only species of Colubrid in Australia!

Colorado’s most widespread native snake, the Bullsnake, has a reputation for being defensive, but in my experience they’re all bark and no bite! This subadult showed all of his tricks - loud hissing, gaping his mouth open, and rattling his tail like a rattlesnake, but he never once actually tried to bite me. It’s a scam! 🤣
