I have played with Marcelo on and off, but now that he is over 5 years old, it's time to get a bit more serious.
Marcelo is pure Paso Fino stallion by Reverende de United (Imp.USA)(goes back to Patrimonio sel Ocho and Profeta de Besilu), out of AuSome Chica de Plata (granddaughter of Alicante and El Aguila de San Felipe).
Sunday's session was refining cues on the lunge, lateral flexions, learning the idea of in hand shoulder-in and lining up at the mounting block and first time leaning over.
To make sure that Marcelo is well socialised (same as other stallions I have started), I often have a gelding in a stall alongside the working area, and stabled next door. Often, I pony the c**ts from a gelding, and usually Phoebus gets these jobs, as he is really well educated and not intimidated by c**ts and young stallions. Marcelo was ponied whenhe was a little younger.
As Phoebus was having some well deserved time off, I just had him around, but this time I let him in the arena for a roll while I worked with Marcelo. As is often the case, Phoebus likes to join in whatever is going. So he hovered close by or followed us around. This was actually really useful for the session, and it will prepare Marcelo for when he is ready for his first few rides out, when Phoebus will be the mentor and travel companion.
