Our mission

Founded in 2012 Save Me Rescue, located in Southern Ontario, is one of many non-profit organizations dedicated to rescuing abandoned or otherwise homeless animals, (primarily dogs) from high-kill shelters predominantly around Canada and the United States. Additionally, Save Me Rescue focuses our efforts on providing foster homes for dogs whose owners are no longer able to care for the

m, in order to place them in the care of individually chosen families with whom they can bond and grow with in years to come. By effectively connecting and working alongside impossibly committed volunteers, dedicated foster homes, local veterinarians, diligent trainers and boarding facilities, Save Me is able to rescue, rehabilitate and relocate a large number of animals every year. Providing incoming animals with much-needed loving temporary care until we are able to find them carefully screened, well-matched forever homes is simply our pleasure. Formed after recognizing a need for an organization which specialized on the medical health and behavioural well-being of the dogs they rescued, Save Me also found an absence of support for the families behind their adoptions. This includes both the families surrendering dogs who often have no other choice but to turn to shelters or rescue groups for help, by ensuring that they feel supported in their decisions and reassuring them that their loved ones will be cared for in every sense of the word, and keeping in touch with the families who we have been lucky enough to meet through the adoption of one of our foster dogs. To further prevent this issue from occurring, Save Me Rescue decided very early on to also serve as a resource to communities and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spaying and/or neutering your pet, positive behavior training, and proper nutrition.

Our sweet Momma June must have some kind of sixth sense about when it is a holiday. She decided to usher in the New Year with another emergency procedure yesterday!
June had a “hole” open up near her incision which looked very raw and sore. Her foster mom Courtney was at the ER the minute they opened and after a careful examination it was decided that this would need more attention than the veterinarian had first thought. June’s incision had to be re-opened and the area was flushed, resutured, and the hole was also closed. The doctor is not sure why this happened but feels her skin was very strained and thin. Within hours she was back home, and trooper that she is, taking the best care of her puppies.
June still has some challenges ahead of her. When we were asked to help her we were informed that she is heartworm positive. We have always treated the dogs prior to coming to their foster homes, but this was not an option due to her advanced pregnancy. Given that it is winter and there is no risk of her passing heartworm into the mosquito population in Owen Sound, this time of year, we were comfortable bringing her into rescue.
As soon as the puppies are weaned, June will start her pre-treatment and then have her immiticide injections at the proscribed times.
We are so grateful that June is with us and will continue to have all of the care that she needs. The generosity and support for Momma June and her puppies has filled our hearts.

As another year comes to a close, we want to thank the many people who made it possible for Save Me to adopt out the beautiful faces in this video. It takes a very big village consisting of shelter volunteers and advocates, transport networks, veterinary clinics, rescue volunteers, foster parents, our board, adopters, and supporters. For each precious life to find its brighter future there are so many people involved. Each step of the process is intrinsic to our ultimate goal of placing our dogs in loving families.
During 2025, Save Me adopted out 107 dogs. Amazing dogs of every age, size, and breed make up, stole our hearts along the way.
We had sad goodbyes to 4 of our palliative fosters this year - Goldie, Moe, Sassy Cat, and Chloe. It is always a special privilege to be able to offer care and love for the rest of a dog’s life and the foster parents who provide this do so with open hearts, even knowing there is heartbreak to come. The recent loss of one of June’s puppies must also be acknowledged.
We are going into 2026 watching our 5 healthy puppies thrive! Nothing like a pile of happy puppies to make us smile. One of our first new intakes of the year will be Molly, a sweet little senior who is joining us as a palliative dog. So we will start the year on the 2 extremes of the spectrum that exemplifies who we are and what we do!
Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year! May 2026 be filled with all things wonderful.

A box of wiggles, grunts and snorts 🐾 💕
Did you know, newborn puppies can't regulate their own body temperature? They rely on their mother and littermates for warmth and external heat sources until they're about 2-3 weeks old.
So when Mama June needs to get some exercise or take a bathroom break, the puppies are curled up together snug together on a warming blanket.

The dogs featured in this album have recently arrived in to Save Me Rescue’s care and are NOT accepting applications. Once they have been assessed and are ready for adoption, they will be moved to the Available Dogs album. Most of these photos have been taken at their respective shelters and you can see how scared and confused they are. They now know true love with their foster homes.

Stay tuned for updates on these beautiful dogs!

We are so excited to formally introduce these beautiful little babies. Our girl names are snow and our boy is named after his foster mom’s favorite celebration, Solstice. Take a look..
While their first day of life was anything but straight forward and calm, these resilient little puppies are thriving. They're wiggly, active, happy little pups that are steadily gaining weight.
Mama June is also recovering nicely from her emergency surgery. She's enjoying top notch meals with a side of ice cream/yoghurt! She's tending to her babies and resting in between. She's just the sweetest mama.
While we grieve for the pup that didn't make it, we are very thankful that June is ok, and we want to celebrate her little family. We cannot wait to watch these puppies grow and share this experiencewith all of you..... and let's not forget the puppy breath.. sigh, heavenly!

We are so very grateful for the amount support from all of you. It has been an emotional time for all of us, and your donations and kind words have been overwhelming in the best possible way.
It has taken June’s foster mom Courtney several tries to make it through all the comments, she is just so touched by the number of people who took the time (especially during the busy holiday season) to reach out and show such compassion and care. She appreciates each and every message sent.
June is exhausted, but is doing really well. She's sleeping when she can, cleaning & nursing her 5 beautiful babies, and enjoying all the extra treats that she's likely never had before. She's developed a real love for ice cream and roasted chicken!
The babies have been gaining weight and are active, strong and beyond adorable.
Stay tuned for our introduction post, naming these beautiful puppies...

Emergency situation for Momma June....
Our day of joy and excitement took a turn Friday afternoon as we waited for June’s 6th puppy to make an appearance. Foster mom, Courtney, kept in touch with the E.R. Clinic that saw Momma June, late Thursday night. While a pause in whelping is not unusual it did get to a point where it was decided that it was best she come back in for another checkup. X-rays showed a very large puppy and the veterinarian was not able to manually help the pup be born as he seemed to be stuck on something.
Momma June underwent an emergency caesarean section Friday afternoon. Shortly after he was born, the puppy crashed and despite the heroic efforts of the clinic staff, he didn't survive. Our hearts are heavy at the loss of this precious little soul. However, you can have more than one emotion at the same time. We are infinitely grateful that June came through the surgery well and that the 5 puppies are thriving and we will try to concentrate on that. Thank you to the wonderful staff at the Bluewater VEC (.vec) in Owen Sound for the amazing care and compassion. It was an exhausting 24 hours for momma June, and foster mom Courtney. Our little family could not be in better hands than with Courtney and we send her a collective hug and our thanks for making sure June got the help she needed.
An emergency C-section, on Boxing Day, has left us with a very costly and unexpected vet bill.
Any donations to help would be greatly appreciated and would still qualify for your 2025 taxes with receipts issued for donations of 20.00 and up. E-transfers and PayPal can be sent to [email protected] should you not wish to use the social media donate button.
Stay tuned for the names of our beautiful puppies and their individual introductions over the coming days.

We have some incredibly exciting news to share! 🐶 Five absolutely beautiful puppies were born overnight, and they all seem healthy and are doing wonderfully. Four girls and one boy!
The first pup was born shortly before 1 am, the last arriving around 6 am. Needless to say, it was a very long night for June, she is understandably exhausted but so proud of her little ones.
HUGE thank you to June's amazing foster mom and dad, Courtney and John, who missed out on Christmas dinner with their family. We greatly appreciate you both for coaching June through her contractions, seeing each puppy delivered safely, and helping them to latch onto mama for their first meal.
Foster mom and dad, as well as June and her wee little beans, are soundly sleeping... we will check in with them later today.

Just a little update, June is in early stages of labour. She's been restless today. She even decided to make a bed in a shelf of blankets & towels. On top of the pacing and nesting, her temperature is dropping, appetite less... so we expect to see the pups at any point in the next 24 hrs...
Will they be Christmas babies, or Boxing Day babies.. we will soon find out!
Good luck June!!!
