I thought this might make an engaging and inspiring conversation: What is an analogy or phrase you heard or read, that sticks in your mind each time you ride?
I have two. One, from Dr Klimke, that a horse should feel in the neck to the hand like a horse thrusting his head over the stall door, wanting the apple you’ve brought. That sort of dynamic propulsion to the bit. ‘Taking’ his rider along a little bit.
The second one is from an article and, sadly, I can’t remember the author, that said a rider’s contact on the outside rein should be like a ballet dancer placing their hand upon the barre: no restriction or force, just to gently guide and balance the horse.
I certainly don’t nail them every day, but they are in my brain and I try my best every ride.
What about you? Which phrase was your lightbulb moment? Please feel free to post any photographs that felt like what you were trying to achieve— even if only for a couple of strides!
