Following a canine distemper outbreak at Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center (DAS), Operation Kindness is providing critical support through its Friends of Dallas Animal Services initiative.

Canine distemper is a highly contagious virus that attacks the respiratory, gastrointestinal and nervous systems of dogs. We are committed to covering the cost of PCR distemper tests through Purdue’s Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory for every dog at DAS. The tests are highly accurate diagnostics that detect the virus’s genetic material and support early detection, even before symptoms appear. Priced at $68 each, it’s estimated that testing the entire dog population at DAS will cost approximately $35,000.

We are dedicated to jumping in whenever the need arises to help save more animal lives.

Operation Kindness is the leading no-kill animal shelter in North Texas.

Since our founding in 1976, Operation Kindness has saved more than 105,000 homeless animals. We take pride in our ability to treat and rehabilitate the dogs and cats in our care and give them the opportunity to experience a great quality of life. North Texas daily faces the challenge of how to tackle the homeless pet population issue. Operation Kindness serves as a partner for 47 municipal shelters and rescue groups who have animals in need of lifesaving medical care, or are simply low on space. When we work together, we can truly make a difference for homeless pets in North Texas.
