Two Scraggle Kings 💜 my only two rescues now, which is insane.

Chunk needs to actually use his sand and he’ll be right as rain again. For now he’s got old man hair 😆 But this is just how Kazu looks now - 18 months old, hydro/brachy, double cataracts, weird fur. And then he’s got battle wounds on his ear from his previous home. Just looking a total mess, but he’s such a sweet boy 🥺

On top of getting everyone from this current litter into homes and making travel plans, I need to build my other Vista and get it set up, clean out Luna and Apple’s enclosures (Kit’s too but I have time since he’s on vacation), and then refresh sprays and forage for everyone. I need to order more floral mix too 😮‍💨 Rowena is going in one of the Vistas and then I’m saving the other for a male from my next litter. After my next litter, I won’t be breeding again until sometime in 2026 so I can focus more on some classes I enrolled in. But I’ll still post everyone even while breeding itself takes a backseat!

Behold the Supernatural litter!

Rowena is my holdback, Charlie is a potential holdback for , and Claire is a potential holdback for .

Thank you all once again for your patience! There have been lots of unforeseen circumstances occurring concurrently with this litter and I know it’s been inconvenient 😭 I’m going to do my best to make sure the next litter goes better.

Boys and girls (minus Rowena and Charlie) eating their lunch. Rowena was off being a weirdo in the tissue box, and Charlie is likely sleeping like the dead somewhere again - I’ll check later 😆

Some quick updates -

I will not be around much this weekend. I’m traveling to take Kit on vacation, give a cage that I picked up to a friend, and then bring 2 new cages home. I also want to prep Juno’s Vista and the 2nd pup bin since the pups will be 4 weeks old next Wednesday, and that’s not really something I want to deal with after work lol

I’m hoping to start reaching out about pup selections on Wednesday starting with those who are at the top of my list. I do ask that you get back to me within 48 hours or I’ll be forced to move on to the next person on the list.

Any emails/messages outside of those pertaining to this litter will be replied to as I find time. I’ve been working more, battling daily headaches, etc. and I haven’t been feeling up to vetting and conversation.

Lastly, the next litter is planned already between one of Juno’s pups and Kit. Breeding one of the pups back to Kit will help lock in traits that I want in my lines, such as nice ears, fur density (and maybe eventual fur length lol), and head shape. This breeding will take place towards the end of May and the litter theme will be InuYasha. As long as the breeding takes, pups will be ready to go home towards the beginning of August or so. If it doesn’t take, I may try Adam or may borrow a male from another breeder. I’m banking on the InuYasha litter being my final one for this year, and tentatively returning to breeding early next year.

Good night Fig 🌈 when I checked on the hammies on my lunch break, I noticed that Fig had unfortunately crossed the rainbow bridge. Thankfully Fig lived a long, full life and was about 32 months old. I was hoping she’d be one of my few robo’s to make it to 3, but it was her time. I’ll miss my Figgy Smalls 💔

Have a handful of pups feasting on mush and cucumbers. Looks like we have 7 females and 5 males. I’m planning on holding back the champagne banded female (not pictured) and the rust banded female to grow them out and pick whichever will fit better into my program, and another breeder may be interested in one of the cream banded females. More updates to come, I just wanted to post something positive really quickly and duck back into my hole 🥲 I appreciate everyone who offered their condolences about Carrot and BonBon, I’ve just been trying to take some time to disconnect a bit.

God I don’t even know what’s happening right now 😢 I found BonBon passed away as well. He was so young, I don’t even know what the cause could have been other than genetics. I was planning on moving him into a Bigger World this weekend and everything, I couldn’t wait. There were no signs or anything… I did panic and go through everyone’s cages and everyone else seems okay, even old lady Fig. I know everyone wants pup updates, but please be patient with me. I need a couple days after these two 🥺

Sadly tonight I found rescue girl Carrot in her forever sleep. She was almost 2, which is bittersweet, but at least it looks like she passed away peacefully. That’s all I can ever hope for. She was a sassy lady and my first real taste of what a female Syrian hamster without trauma was like. But despite her sassiness she was one of the sweetest hamsters I’ve ever had the pleasure to care for, and I’ll miss her a lot.

Adam got moved into his Vista the other day, and he seems to be loving it! He’s out more frequently and he seems like he’s exploring more. I would like to add a bamboo root once I motivate myself to shave one down (yes you read that right… bamboo roots are nightmare fuel prior to being cleaned off). I have 3 that need shaved and I’ve been considering buying more, but subjecting myself to the torture of MORE might have to wait until summer lol

I also forgot I had reed grass in my freezer so I’ll be adding some of that soon, as well as maybe some wheat. I try to be careful about what sprays I give them and how often, especially since my lines so far have been pretty prone to easy weight gain. I tend to focus more on grass type sprays, although these have the messy drawback of being easy to knock over and shred apart 😅

Juno’s 12 pups are officially 2 weeks old which means I can finally post pup pictures now! I’m going to clean the bin tomorrow evening and get some individual photos of everyone while I determine the sexes of this litter. I know from what I did see that this seems like a female heavy litter, but we’ll see if that’s still the case when I have a chance to look at everyone.

So far I know the champagne pup with the heart in the band is a female and the single chocolate pup is a male. I can already say that I’m definitely going to name the heart band female Cupid, which thankfully IS a Supernatural character 😆 I hope she turns out well because I’m looking to keep a female or two from this litter and champagne or rust would be my best bets on hold backs to meet my long term color goals. Time will tell though!

I genuinely don’t know why Kit is becoming a carpet all of a sudden, but I love this!! So far Adam is taking after him with the shorter but dense fur that Kit had for the longest time - maybe Adam will get super fluffy like this one day too.

Juno’s pups are doing good! As of Wednesday, they’re officially a week old so just another week to go before I can take/post pictures. I’m thinking there are 12, unless one is still magically hiding under the rest of them at this point. Lots of lighter colors so I do have to apologize to everyone who was wanting darker colors - it was a possibility but the odds weren’t in our favor. There are a few that I suspect are chocolate, one I suspect is champagne, and one that could be rust or possibly silver beige that I have my eye on. Time will tell what everyone is for sure. Ultimately I’m going to try to go with best type and temperament as far as hold backs, but I would love for one of the aforementioned to work out.

Kazu my brachy/hydro rescue buddy!

I need to hop on my soapbox a little once again - while I’m not 100% sure who the rodent “hoarder” in Ohio is, I went down a rabbit hole the other day and have very strong suspicions. I eagerly await to see if charges are pressed and if a name gets released. If it is who I suspect, then the reality is they very well can be considered a hoarder at this point, but they’re also someone who claimed to be breeding ethically. Sadly I always knew otherwise.

As much as certain communities love to complain about it, there is a very clear reason why the CHA/OHC only consists of a dozen or so hamsteries - these hamsteries are thoroughly vetted to ensure they are doing things according to an ethical standard of breeding, see examples below (note there are more standards available on the California Hamster Association website under Breeder’s Code):

1) They understand they hold these animals’ lives in their hands and respect that by ensuring they’re providing a suitable environment and level of care for them.
2) They mind their limits and keep their animals within such a range that they don’t have to sacrifice their care. They do not breed more animals than they can reasonably find homes for, or house themselves should they not be able to find suitable homes.
3) Specifically for dwarf hamster breeders, it should be understood that beginning with pet store stock is not ethical and to claim purebred status without the ability to trace their lineage back is misleading.

3 huge (consolidated, even) points in this case and we can already see how they’ve violated each point. But they claimed to be ethical? Unfortunately this happens a lot. I don’t know what it is that makes some breeders so resistant to trying a better way.

Anyhow for those of you who don’t know, I have 3 large breed dogs, 2 cats, 6 mice with plans to get a few more in a couple of months, 5 rescue hamsters, and currently 6 breeding hamsters plus Juno’s litter. When I consider my limits, I have to consider my non-breeding related pets as well. Unlike any litters I would like to breed, the animals I have now are already here and relying on me to properly care for them. In an article I read, the single surviving husky out of 6-7 on the property of this hoarder was an adult female weighing 14 lbs. My cat Drizzy weighs 14.7 lbs. When I made that connection, that my CAT weighs more than this dog, I started crying. I want to cry again just thinking about it. My heart already broke for the hamsters and mice, but to know that these dogs were starved… This goes so far beyond any excuse, this was just pure carelessness. I can only hope at this point that charges do get pressed and that this person is unable to own animals again in the future. And that maybe one day people will take pet ownership and breeding seriously to keep tragedies like this from happening over and over.

When it comes to offering Juno snackrifices, I fear for my fingers now 😅 she’s like a cobra coming after her Ge**er puffs. I just tell myself that it ain’t easy being a momma - she says “gib treatos and get lost” and I need to obey 😮‍💨 hopefully she’ll go back to being a lovely treat taker when her momma duties are over.

A few updates -

I’m counting 12 or 13 pups in Juno’s litter. I plan to hold back 3 or 4 as breeding prospects to start and whittle down from there. I have 8 people on my waitlist for this litter so far. Depending on if other breeders in my network want dibs on any of these pups will determine if there are anymore openings on my waitlist, but I’ll keep things updated. As an FYI, I won’t be posting photos until the 2 week mark, selections won’t be made until closer to 4-5 weeks, and then pups will start going home at 8 weeks.

I’m already making plans to breed Kit back to one of Juno’s female pups (likely in late May/early June) to lock his fur density, conformation, and size into my lines. This litter will be my InuYasha litter 🏹🗡️ I noticed earlier this week that rather than thinning out as some hamsters do with age, Kit actually seems to be getting fluffier! No his isn’t the wispy longhair some of us are used to seeing, but it is thick!! The photos in this post are of Kit and his fur - my fingers sink into it and it is DENSE.

After I successfully breed him to a Juno pup, Kit may end up going on vacation to to be big poppa there too, but that plan is a bit in the air for right now.

I think that might be it for updates for now, but if I think of anything else I’ll either make another post or it’ll be in my stories.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any of my rescues, and I didn’t even realize! Here was Carrot from the other day looking super cute 🥰

You might have noticed content has been really spotty from me. I’ve been sick pretty much since the time I got COVID in early December, with only a few good days here and there. I’ve been trying to avoid the hams as much as possible, except as needed. I did go to the doctor and I’m on antibiotics now. I’m hopeful that I’ll start to feel more like me again by next week after my round of antibiotics is over, but we’ll see. Thank you all for your patience with me!
