NCW Chapter of North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association

NCW Chapter of North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association NCW NAVHDA is a group of novice and experienced versatile dog owners, trainers, breeders, and enthusiasts.

NCW NAVHDA members include a mix of experienced and novice dog handlers who train together to develop the best versatile hunting dogs. Some of our members strive for a NAVHDA prize, while other members are simply working towards improving their dogs hunting skills in the field. We welcome members from every interest level and any level of experience. As a club, will help you achieve what you set o

ut to accomplish with your dog. The NCW Chapter encourages all group members to actively participate in the Chapter through group training, mentorship, and participation at our monthly (April through August) training sessions. We also encourage members to volunteer for tasks anywhere from coordinating a lunch at a training day, to working at one of the test events sponsored by our Chapter.

You should have received a reminder email from our Test Secretary, Jill Colloton, confirming your running date and informing you of your Field Marshal, what Team you're on, and your testing location. If you did NOT receive an email and are running a dog this weekend, please reach out and let us know.

𝗩𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗘𝗥𝗦! You should have received an email from Jill detailing your assignments and location information. Please reach out if you did not receive an email.

Tomorrow's training is a mock test day!

⏰ TRAINING STARTS @ 7am -- arrive EARLY to pick up birds!
⛔️ AVOID POOL 5. The risk of blastomycosis is VERY high.

Natural Ability (puppies) will stay at the Mead for the entire mock test/training day.

Gun Dog / Utility / Advanced dogs will be off-site for the majority of the day – returning to the Mead for the Drags.

The last training day of 2025 will be a Mock Test day — so if you’ve never run in a NAVHDA Natural Ability test before, this is your practice run before the big day. *Get recommendations from your breeder, trainer, or club mentor on what to order for birds or see what we recommend below.

Utility & Gun Dogs are all different — and we can’t really say what we think everyone should be doing. What we CAN say is WE ARE HERE FOR YOU! If you feel that you and/or your dog are struggling in any area of the test: reach out! Our chapter is so lucky to have knowledgeable, experienced, and selfless mentors who want to help you succeed.

You don’t have to wait until training day to ask for help, either. Comment on this post - message us - send an email. We’re all here to help make every dog the best they can be.

Our second-to-last training day is approaching fast... 7am Saturday will be here before you know it!

NCW NAVHDA’s very own Mountain Man of Tomahawk, T.J. McKenzie, will be giving a hands-in (yes, IN) demonstration and providing invaluable tips about what to do if your dog encounters various traps in the field. This is always a can't-miss lunchtime presentation!

We also have a special guest, Bill Koepke from the Wisconsin Prairie Chicken Project set up at the pavilion during the morning - he's a passionate outdoorsman, conservationist, and a proud NCW supporter (even without having official NAVHDA dogs).

See you all bright and early this Saturday!
