🐾 November is Senior Pet Month 💛

So it's time to bring awareness to our beloved senior pets. Just like us, our pets’ needs change as they get older. Senior dogs and cats can still live long, happy, and comfortable lives , they just need a little extra TLC. These are our top vet tips for keeping your golden oldie feeling their best 👇

1️⃣ Home modifications:
Make your home senior-friendly with ramps, pet stairs, and orthopaedic beds to protect their joints and help them move around comfortably.

2️⃣ Joint support:
A joint support diet or supplements containing ingredients like omega-3 fatty acids can make a big difference in mobility and comfort.

3️⃣ Regular vet checks:
Older pets should see their vet at least twice a year for check-ups. Catching early signs of arthritis, dental disease, or organ issues can help improve health outcomes and their quality of life.

4️⃣ Keep them warm:
Senior pets feel the cold more easily and cold joints exacerbate arthritis pain. Use cosy jackets on winter walks and provide warm bedding or heated pet beds at home.

5️⃣ Gentle exercise:
Stay active but keep it low intensity. Short walks, gentle play, or swimming are great ways to keep muscles strong without overdoing it.

6️⃣ Keep their mind sharp:
Mental stimulation is just as important! Puzzle feeders, interactive toys, and simple training exercises can help keep your pet’s brain active and engaged.

✨ Our senior pets give us a lifetime of love. Let's do our part to make their golden years as comfortable and happy as possible.

It may not be such a bad thing to be told you have a memory like a goldfish…

These little swimmers are often underestimated but they are way more clever and fascinating than most people realise! Here are 5 fun facts about goldfish:

🐠 1. Goldfish can live for decades! With proper care, some live over 20 years.
🧠 2. They’ve got a better memory than you think! Goldfish can actually remember things for weeks (not seconds!) and even learn simple tricks.
✨ 3. They come in many fancy varieties - from bubbly orandas to the classic comet, goldfish breeds come in an incredible range of shapes and colours.
🌿 4. Goldfish need plenty of space, a bowl is never enough! A large, filtered tank is essential for their health and happiness.
🐠🐠 Goldfish love company. These social swimmers thrive in groups, so they’re happiest when they have other goldfish friends around.

🐍🦎Happy National Reptile Day! 🐢🐍

Today we’re celebrating all our scaly friends, from blue-tongue lizards and bearded dragons to pythons and turtles!
Here are a few quick tips to keep your reptile happy and healthy this Reptile Day:

💡Temperature & UVB matter: Reptiles rely on external heat and UVB light to regulate their body temperature and absorb calcium. Make sure your setup mimics their natural environment.
🥦 Feed for their species: Each reptile has unique dietary needs. Bearded dragons need a mix of insects and greens, while pythons are carnivores that feed on whole prey items.. Always research your species diet or chat with your vet before feeding
🏥 Regular health checks: Reptiles are the masters of disguise when it comes to illness and even subtle signs like lethargy, reduced appetite or shedding issues can signal bigger underlying problems, so regular vet visits with a reptile-savvy vet are important!

Reptiles are unique and fascinating pets that deserve just as much care as any furry friend 💚

🐱🐱 Cat Behaviour 101:

Has your cat’s quirky behaviour got you mystified? Here’s what it all means:

1. Kneading or making biscuits is a leftover kitten behaviour from nursing, showing your cat feels safe and content.

2. Head butting or bunting is your cat marking you with their scent glands or pheromones to show affection and ownership.

3. Purring is usually a sign of happiness, but cats also purr when stressed or unwell. It may even help them heal!

4. Slow blinking is a cat’s way of saying they love you and is a sign of ultimate trust.

5. Zoomies – Those random sprints? These are bursts of instinctive hunting energy being released.

Ever wondered what it’s like to see, smell, and hear the world like your dog? 🐶

These are 5 fascinating facts about dog senses:

1️⃣ Super Smellers – Dogs can smell up to 100,000 times better than humans, which is why they’re amazing trackers and often work in jobs like border control.

2️⃣ Amazing Hearing – Dogs can hear high-pitched sounds far beyond what humans can detect.

3️⃣ Taste Buds – With only around 1,700 taste buds (compared to our 9,000), dogs can still detect sweet, sour, salty, and bitter flavours.

4️⃣ Night Vision – Thanks to a reflective layer behind their retinas called the tapetum lucidum, dogs see better than humans in low light.

5️⃣ Sensory Whiskers – Their whiskers act like built-in radar, helping them detect nearby objects and navigate their surroundings.

Often described as having a personality somewhere between a cat and a dog, ferrets are cheeky, curious, and endlessly entertaining! 🐾
Here are 5 fun facts you might not know about these playful pets:

1. Ferrets can sleep up to 20 hours a day, but when they’re awake, they’re full of energy and always ready for mischief.
2. A group of ferrets is called a business — and when it comes to playtime, they really do mean business!
3. They’re natural escape artists. Their long, flexible bodies let them squeeze through tiny gaps, so a secure enclosure and supervision during playtime are a must.
4. Ferrets are social animals and thrive with the company of other ferrets.
5. Like cats, ferrets are obligate carnivores, requiring a high-protein, high-fat meat-based diet.

Whiskers are one of the many adorable features we love about our pets but did you know that whiskers actually serve an important purpose? 🐱🐶🐰

Whiskers, or vibrissae, are super sensitive hairs that help animals navigate the world. The length of a pet’s whiskers actually marks the borders of their body, helping cats, rabbits, and other animals figure out what spaces they can fit through.

Whiskers help animals to detect nearby objects and can even pick up tiny changes in air currents. Whiskers are basically acting as your pet’s built-in radar!
