We are in “the valley of decision”.
We are weighing our options.

Do we stay open because the animal welfare world is in crisis more now than ever?
Or do we cut our losses and realize we had a good run, but it’s time to accept defeat?

I honestly don’t know.

We are almost out of supplies and funds.
I feel like the record is on repeat and no one hears it.

Every post feels like the last.
The needs are neverending.
There’s not enough help.
And the list goes on.

The next few days are prime days, which means there’s a lot of great deals on supplies we desperately need. If you’re able to send food or potty pads from our wish list, we’d be incredibly grateful.

UPDATE: HB 331 was signed into Georgia law and prohibits the sale or barter of dogs, cats, and domestic rabbits in transient, outdoor locations such as parking lots, sidewalks, roadsides, and pop-up flea markets. The law became effective July 1st but has NOT yet been posted in the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (O.C.G.A.). The GA Pet Coalition was informed that this lag time is common for new laws. HB 331 will be listed in state law as O.C.G.A. § 4-11-10.1.

Because this is a new statute, law enforcement officers are encouraged to initially issue warnings for most violations in order to educate breeders and allow local governments time to adopt an ordinance to expand their options for enforcement. Animal control and code enforcement officers can also assist with education when encountering breeders in prohibited locations.

In the meantime, advocates can inform the public, businesses, and breeders by sharing this one-page FAQ prepared by the GPC:

NOTE. Only P.O.S.T.* certified law enforcement officers (e.g., police, sheriff) have the authority to enforce violations of O.C.G.A. § 4-11-10.1 via a warning or an arrest warrant. Once a local government adopts an ordinance prohibiting the same illegal conduct in O.C.G.A. § 4-11-10.1, both P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement officers AND non-P.O.S.T. certified animal control and code enforcement officers will be authorized to cite violations under local code. Shelters and Rescues brace themselves this time of year. No matter how many warnings, pleas, checklists, etc. that we put out, there are still people who leave their animals to fend for themselves.

Please secure your animals and make sure they have appropriate ID, and be considerate of those around you who may not enjoy the festivities the 4th of July brings.

It’s been 2 weeks since I lost my furry soulmate.

I called to see if she was ready for pick up today, and it felt like I was making the decision all over again.

I went out of town weekend before last, and it was the first trip I’ve made without her in almost 10 years. I kept allotting time at each stop to let her out to use the restroom, and quickly realized she isn’t there anymore.

Muscle memory seems to last much longer than the actual reality of it all.

While I was away, two prescriptions and a barkbox came in the mail for her. 😭

After I arrived back into Macon, there was a knock on the door. A delivery. A beautiful bouquet was sent from Chewy. Thank you! Your kindness is always above and beyond.

While I’m still processing the loss, I am also carrying the heavy load of a failing rescue. The stress is more than I can bare most days, but I’m really trying.

I know I sound like a broken record, but we have bills due, and we are almost out of food and potty pads. If we can’t find a way to survive financially, we will be forced to close, and the animals in our care will be the ones to suffer.

To add insult to injury, someone has created a fake account that looks like ours in order to solicit donations from our followers. PLEASE do not send ANY money to anyone requesting donations. We would never send you a request via facebook, paypal, cashapp or venmo.

If you are able to help us get our head above water, we’d be so grateful. The next week isn’t looking good for us.

Hi, everyone.
Erika here.

I appreciate your patience with me as I navigated a very difficult time with my dog, Charity.

A lot of days, I didn’t have it in me to make the usual posts for the rescue because I was so consumed with her care and all that that entails.

There were several donations made, and I cannot thank each of you enough for contributing to her end of life care.

She made it almost 3 months longer than anticipated.

We have been through beds, blankets, elevated food bowls, multiple medications, probiotics, special easily digestible food, and I just placed an $88 order for meds she won’t even use.

This is not me trying to make a buck off a bad situation. This is me reminding you all how this usually goes for those of us in rescue. We need much more than anticipated or received.

Over and over and over again.
We willingly do this.

Two days after Charity passed, one of our rescues had a ruptured abscess on her a**l gland. I noticed it Wednesday evening, and she was at the vet the next morning. Another expense we were not prepared for.

It’s hard enough dealing with constant woes of a rescue full of seniors, but it’s even more difficult pleading for funds we rarely receive in order to provide them with the best care, and when the funds aren’t there, wondering how we’re going to cover it.

If you’re able to donate a few dollars, we’d be so grateful. We have a vet bill we need to pay down, and we hope to rebuild our nest egg for emergencies.
